Chapter 376: Fun Is Over
Ti passed by and Elaina didn’t realize it is almost afternoon already. Holding the big fish she shot not too long ago with her speargun, she returned to their spot where everyone is already tidying up the place and putting their belongings back to the containers they used to carry them this morning. They are going ho.
"Looks like you are back, Elaina. And that fish is a big one, I must say," Troy said while watching at Elaina’s catch that is still twitching from ti to ti.
"Got lucky by going a bit farther from the swimrs. The fishes there were plentiful and I saw a group of these fishes swimming there so I tried sniping them with the spear gun. Sadly, I only got one. It would have been great if I have shot more."
"I think that’s alright, Sis. I can see you still struggling to use the Speargun underwater and considering that you managed to catch one even when struggling ans that you are doing great," Julia praises Elaina but Elaina shook her head.
"Eh, I think I still needed more practice and control on this item. Unlike a regular fishing rod, this one might be easy but once I am underwater, I needed to be precise on my control otherwise, the bolt will miss the fish considering fishes are not stationary. This one is just lucky."
Opening the ice box and putting the fish inside, Elaina put away her speargun and took her clothes to shower and change back to her regular clothes. Just swimming in the ocean for so long made her feel sticky.
Thankfully, the shower didn’t have that many people showering, Elaina managed to nab an empty stall and began to shower. While she was showering, she heard two girls enter the opposite side of the shower stall which is the dressing room for those who did not swim and for those changing from their regular clothes to swimsuit and vice versa. Even if the two sides are separate, Elaina can hear the voices of those girls and overheard an interesting story.
"I just recently returned to the rfolk Kingdom a few days ago after the weather has cleared."
"Did you visit your family there? I thought you usually stay longer over there if you decided to go back for a while?"
"That was supposed to be the case but my family suggested that I continue to stay for a while on land at the mont instead of staying for a few days over there because sothing happened that stirred the peace of the kingdom."
"Trouble?"
"Yeah. Although this was only a big news in rfolk kingdom, since you are curious about why I returned early, I think you need to know that all of the Great Elders of the Great families have collapsed and lost their powers."
"Lost their powers? What do you an?"
"They lost their ability to use magic and use mana. In short, their mana veins have been compromised."
"That’s a bit harsh of a fate...but why would you be suggested by your parents to stay here on land for the ti being? Are you part of the great families that you have spoken of? And these great families, didn’t you ntioned them last ti as so sort of bigwigs that help rule the kingdom?"
"No. I am born in a regular household. If I was part of one those great families, I wouldn’t be here on the land working my ass off trying to earn so money since those guys are pretty rich. However, I think the main reason they are trying to keep
out of there is because there might be so sort of war that might happen there between the great families and there might be so trouble coming which was sparked by the Great Elders collapsing and losing their power. My parents are still finalizing their belongings and said that they will co to the land for the ti being and let the situation there cool down for a bit. They don’t want to be included in the crossfire between other families."
After those conversations, the voices slowly faded and the sound of the door opening ans that the two won speaking earlier have already left. Just hearing the result of the ritual that they made not too long ago, Elaina felt a bit of satisfaction that the perpetrators have received their just desserts. Of course, she didn’t expect things to go full blown after hearing the information. And for it to be big enough that even regular citizens of the kingdom getting caught in the trouble ans there is sothing big happening in the rfolk Kingdom’s system. Elaina silently prays for the safety of the regular citizens. She didn’t want to drag them to this troubleso matter but considering that they would have suffered long term, a bit of sacrifice to be made.
Taking a good scrub all over her body, Elaina ca out from the shower refreshed and back to her more comfortable outfit. The swimsuit is nice to wear, but she still prefers regular clothes more.
"Nothing could beat the comfort of regular clothes, I must say."
With her business done, Elaina head back to the others who just finished removing the tarp that they used as roof and are now ready to go back. Seeing that Dr. Fey seems to be going ho, Elaina invited her to the house.
"Dr. Fey, how about you stop by at our farmhouse? With the fish I caught today, I could whip up so good dish that we can eat and enjoy for dinner. How about it?"
Troy heard that and his eyes lit up, anticipating Dr. Fey’s acceptance. But...
Dr. Fey smiled but she shook her head. "I appreciate the offer, Miss Elaina, but I must decline. I promised to head to my Mom tonight for dinner. I am sorry about this, but I will accept the invitation again next ti you invite
but right now is not a good ti."
The look on Troy’s face after hearing the reason has imdiately changed from excited to disappointnt. Elaina thought that he looked funny with his reactions and is amused a bit. But he decided to not laugh at her brother to keep it a secret from Dr. Fey.
"Is that so? Well, that is unfortunate. We would have been glad to have you with us but it can’t be helped especially since you have appointnt with your Mother. I don’t think you will need to replace your appointnt with her on our invitation. Next ti then."
Troy volunteered to send Dr. Fey ho while the rest of the girls headed back ho themselves. Arthur is already asleep and is being carried by the Witch in her arms. Adelaide is walking alongside Julia while humming the beach music that is being blared on the beach all day. Elaina can tell that she enjoyed it so much that she wouldn’t be walking like skipping if she was not happy about the trip.
"Miss Witch, how about you hand over Arthur to ? You have been carrying him since he fell asleep in your arms, your hand might be already sore."
"Just call
Yona, Miss Elaina. I just realized that you lot didn’t even ask my na and just keep on calling
Miss Witch for the longest ti," the Witch said as she handed Arthur slowly to Elaina, ensuring the little boy do not get startled and wake up.
Hearing the na of the witch, Elaina indeed realized that she forgot to ask her na and just keep on calling her Miss Witch. Thankfully, she didn’t seem offended by it and happily told Elaina her na.
"Sorry about that, must’ve slipped on my mind."
"It’s alright."
"So how is the experience? Have you enjoyed your ti returning to the civilization?" Elaina asked.
"At first, I was skeptical, but seeing that no one indeed cared if I used magic, I just realized that things have changed a lot ever since the ti of the witches. No one batted an eye even if I use regular magic that usually gets hunted by witch hunters the mont it is revealed publicly. Seeing this happen right now made
rember the past and my comrades who died as a result of the fearmongering that resulted to the witch hunting."
"That’s good to know. The mont you began to slowly adapt to the new setting, you are slowly returning to the society. With your expertise and how you handle the old magic that stumped many people, I can tell that you might rise up to the Magician Tower as an Elder in no ti," Julia said, praising Yona."
"Haha, even if that is the case, I think my current life is fine. I don’t think garnering attention and keeping myself as part of that is sothing I don’t really enjoy much. So I think keeping my current lifestyle for now should be good enough. Becoming an official in magic is sothing I wouldn’t dream of. I would rather tend to my slis."
Elaina nodded in satisfaction. Yona’s slow transition back to the society is a success. Elaina didn’t know at that ti, that in the future, Yona will beco one of her greatest assets once Elaina begins her new tasks on taming monsters.
