Chapter 370: Ritual Process
As the minerals and gemstones were properly arranged on the magic circle, they started to glow bright. A few markings also started to show up as the surrounding air suddenly felt like it was being twisted greatly.
"This pressure!" Elaina had to hold on to the chair beside her just to stay in balance. It was a strong pressure that was strong enough to make her kneel involuntarily with ease.
Even the witch who was handling the ritual was forced to kneel and hold on to the floorboards as she observed the circle explode in power.
However...
CREAK!
BANG!
A small explosion occurred in the room and the whole area was covered in smoke. Thankfully, it didn’t make any fire, but it did explode and all the materials that were laid out on the floor earlier were destroyed as well as the floorboards disappearing completely.
"Did we fail?" Elaina frowned.
"Yes. It seems that I used up a little bit of the rcury to conduct its mana. As a result, the remaining mana that should have remained circulating to the silver instead went to the materials causing the materials to break to pieces instead and thus the ritual failed imdiately." the witch explained as she stood up and pulled out so wood and imdiately repaired the damage by replacing everything. It seems that the witch has been so used to the explosion of the rituals she has been doing that she already prepared lots of materials. No wonder she has lots of spare floorboards in one of the rooms. Elaina thought that was for firewood but it was for this kind of incident instead.
"You can tell just by what you saw?"
"I was prepared that things would fail and I made sure to observe the situation in case things would get awry, that way, I can imdiately readjust depending on the situation and how the result turned out. The more one does rituals, the more one can understand how to quickly fix the problems they have."
As soon as the repairs to the floor were done, she grabbed the container with the liquid rcury again to the floor. Elaina made sure to stay far from it and not sll it as people have said that liquid mory is harmful if being inhaled a lot.
"Why are you using liquid rcury though? I heard that liquid rcury can be poisonous to humans especially if they are exposed a lot of tis to it? Aren’t you in danger right now?"
"Don’t worry, this is refined Liquid rcury. Regular rcury does that, but refined liquid rcury lacks that aspect. The reason for that is that it was properly refined using the mana, allowing the harmful substances that the rcury would pose to the human body to be removed. And since it is being used regularly by magicians like , the magicians invented this thod to help safely use the liquid rcury without the need of any potential problems to the health of people."
"Although that sounds reassuring, I will just move far just in case. I don’t want to risk it even if it is deed safe," Elaina said.
"That’s fine. Better too since the explosion earlier might be stronger if this one still fails."
Elaina sat beside Princess Margaux who was sitting far from the area. It seems she is aware things will not be successful on the first try which is why she is far from them in the first place.
"Hehe, looks like you are also a bit cautious as well, Miss Elaina."
"Yeah. Even if it was refined, maybe it wouldn’t affect regular magicians, but what about regular people like ? I would rather avoid it while I can rather than avoid it because I am already experiencing a problem with my body."
The two observed the ritual from afar as the ritual began once more. But like what the Witch expected, the spell still failed and exploded. And just like she predicted, compared to the explosion earlier, the explosion just now is much stronger than earlier and a large part of the floorboards are gone from the explosion. Oddly enough, the other items around the witch’s house especially on the shelves remain intact. She thought that due to the shockwave of the explosion, it would be enough to shake the place along with the contents on the shelves, but it seems that wasn’t the main case. Even with the strong explosion, the contents on the shelves remained to be glued on the shelves just fine.
Just like always, the Witch repaired the floorboards and once the floorboards are back in place, she will do the ritual again by adjusting the materials. Now Elaina understood why she needed a lot of those materials. The ritual constantly fails.
"Is it always going to fail?" Elaina asked.
"I underestimated our target. It seems that instead of one culprit, there are multiple of them. No wonder my spell keeps failing to perform."
"Multiple? aning more than one person is doing this problem?"
"It is more precise to say that it must be a group or a council of people. If what was told you is true, my guess is that the whole council of Elders of the rfolk Kingdom has sothing to do with the weather change. So every ti I try to do the ritual, it will fail to connect because it lacks the necessary size of the circle and materials needed for the ritual to succeed."
"Which ans we needed to increase the scope and materials present?" Elaina guessed.
"Correct, Miss Elaina. Let’s increase the amount this ti around."
Determined to stop the rain as soon as possible, Elaina nodded and contributed to the ritual’s creation. The magic circle that is being made is also expanded as well and the number of gemstones used is also increased. As soon as the magic circle is ready, Elaina returns to where she was earlier and the Witch activates the magic circle as soon as she can do so.
WHIRRRR!
A loud sound started to be heard from the magic circle and lightning sparks started to linger around the magic circle as the gemstones placed in the circle started to float and sparkle brightly.
"Looks like it is now working, Miss Elaina. Co close, I will need you to be the one who will cast it and sever the power of their ritual to fully stop their rain. In doing so, the one who also caused this incident will also be punished and will suffer the consequences of their actions."
Elaina nodded as she waited for the magic circle to finish what it was doing.
"How long will this take?" Elaina asked.
"A few more minutes. Most likely around five but maybe more. Once the magic circle stabilizes properly, we can begin the actual process of stopping the rain."
Elaina is patient and as long as things will go on her way, she will be patient for as long as it takes. Princess Margaux started taking notes on the progress and seed to be understanding more about what she was seeing though Elaina could only watch and follow whatever was happening.
It didn’t take long for the magic circle that was previously still violently making so electricity to slow its form and stabilize. Now, things are calm and the gemstones are floating. No, more like they seed to be tied by so blue threads, preventing them from floating away further.
"Alright Miss, Elaina, can you see the blue threads that are "holding" the gemstones?"
"Yes. What are those anyway?"
"The floating gems are what was representing the number of people that are currently powering up whatever they are using to make it rain. As for the blue threads, they are the mana flowing through from these people to the reason of the rain. Cutting these threads will allow us to sever their connection to the gadget they are using whether it was an artifact or not and stopping them from doing this. However, once we cut these threads, they will try to reconnect their connection once it was severed so to stop that from happening, we will have to destroy the gems to pieces the mont their "connections" were cut off. That way, the mont they try to reconnect, their mana circuits will fry and they will no longer be able to use any sort of magic and even utilize their mana."
Elaina then pointed to the erald that seed to be producing the blue threads to keep the gemstones from floating away, "What about this? Why is it like the blue threads are coming from the erald?"
"That is the representation of whatever they tried to use, maybe it was an artifact of so sort, but maybe that was it. An artifact. Once all connections are destroyed, we will break this erald as well to break the source of their power and stop this once and for all. And as for the reason we will destroy it while there are no more blue threads is to ensure that this thing will not explode on us. Now, get ready Miss Elaina, it is ti for us to punish the perpetrators."
The Witch handed her a knife and for the first ti in her life, Elaina is so happy to ruin soone’s life for once.
"Ti for you people to regret!"
