Chapter 387: Sothing’s Changed

I took a deep breath and readied myself for returning and having to explain everything that happened to everyone. Those that are here at least.

I’ll probably have to give a different explanation to the Sect and Trayzara later also... Not particularly looking forward to that but whatever.

Anyways, before I did any of that, I had to actually go back, which wasn’t an issue, it was just a matter of where I need to teleport to, to not arouse too much attention.

I’ve said before that I no longer care much about people knowing, it’s just that the less people that know, the better since it ans less people will bother

about it.

Any magic user with [Space] magic is a rare commodity after all, and everyone would want one for themselves. People not knowing just ans they won’t bother

about it. Which is what I want since it ans I’ll be able to hang out with my friends.

Speaking of, I decided to just teleport back to my room as that was just the easiest solution. But when I went to observe it to teleport there, I saw that it had been vacated.

Actually, the whole thing had been completely emptied out from top to bottom. There was nobody inside, which was weird.

Why wasn’t there anyone in there? Even if all of the orphans had gone out, there should still be staff inside to help maintain the place and all that.

What happened while I was gone?

Seeing that nobody was there, I decided to teleport back in through the slums instead. However, I got my answer as to what happened to the orphanage as the spot Eric an I normally used as a et up point was currently occupied by several younger serpentine.

I moved my vision around the area and found similar sights of orphans hiding around the place in small groups.

’What the fuck happened while I was away? I’ve been gone for what? Two? Three days? And suddenly the orphanage doesn’t exist anymore? The fuck?’

Now that I found out that the Slums had been turned into what they truly were, a place for the poor and orphaned, like every other city in this damned kingdom, I couldn’t teleport in through there anymore.

Which ant I could either spend ti searching for a quiet place to teleport to where no one was looking or sothing. Or I could just co in through the front gate.

And to be honest? Going through the front gate sounded the best to , simply because it would be the quickest way to enter without drawing suspicion.

So, I sped my way over to what I believe is the southern gate, making sure not to co in too fast lest they mistake

for a wild beast.

When I got halfway between the ridges of the dune seas and the city wall, I slowed down a fair bit until I reached the gate and stopped.

I approached the guards, who were currently checking a rchant carriage by the looks of things and waited behind for my turn.

And a few minutes later, they let the carriage inside and turned to deal with

as I made my way over to them.

"Please present your identification or so form of legitimacy of residency in Krara city."

... ’What?’

"I’m sorry, identification? I don’t rember needing that last ti I ca here."

"Well, now you do. If you don’t have any, then fuck off. We’re not accepting strangers with no purpose right now. Let alone an orphan bitch." The guard scowled as her nose crinkled.

I rely stared at her with my eyes narrowed and a brow raised as if to question if she really just said that.

And after less than a minute of silence, the guard lowered her weapon slightly in my direction and said, "Well, scamper on out of here already, since you clearly don’t have any business here."

After blinking rapidly for a couple seconds, I straightened my back and furrowed my brows. Sothing was clearly going on here and I didn’t like it.

If I had to put my finger on who’s responsible for this, then it’s probably that detestable Cult of Fate. If not them, then I don’t know who could be responsible for this. Nor do I know why anyone would want to do this.

Either way, I wasn’t going to let this slide, nor was I going to go away.

I was about to get a little violent and forceful when I rembered that I did have sothing to prove myself and that I had a reason to be here.

"One second." I turned around and reached a hand into my storage to search for this thing.

I was really hoping that I had it on . I don’t rember making a note of it when I organised everything yesterday, but I do rember it being there. I think.

And thankfully it was indeed there, it was actually stuffed between the maps for so reason. Not sure why, but I’m just glad I had it on hand.

I pulled it out with a successful exclamation and presented it to the guard, who then took it and inspected it for any possible blemishes that might indicate it’s fake.

Thankfully there was no such thing and I was then let in despite the annoyance of guards at having to let

in.

Their feelings didn’t matter right now though as I had to go and find my friends. And the first place that I looked was obviously the slums because that’s where they probably were if the others were there also.

However, even after searching for a few hours, I couldn’t find them. They weren’t trying to hide back in the orphanage either, which was now just an empty building.

Nowhere in the entire slums district could I find them. Not inside nor outside. I was starting to get worried when I was surrounded by so of the people in the area.

There were a group of several in every direction. They then parted in front of

and out ca the last person I wanted to see right now.

The serpentine woman that fawned over

on my first day after usurping her position as top serpent.

But sothing was different about her this ti.

Instead of imdiately crashing over , she was back to her old self, full of confidence and smugness.

I wasn’t sure if I preferred this or her other self now that I’m looking at it. I think her entire being is just generally off-putting for

and I don’t know why. Nor do I really care right now.

"Well, well, well, what do we have here? So random, lonely bitch who ca looking for trouble in my turf? And what’s this? She has so fancy rings? We could make a nice profit pawning those of and feed ourselves for a week." She said in a mocking sneer and a cocky smirk.

But the mont I heard that she wanted to take my rings and pawn them off, I was furious.

I hissed at her harshly, and in the process scared the rest of her possie, forcing them to back off, and even making so of them fall unconscious from an overload of fear.

"SSSHHHAAAAAAAAA!!!"

She too shivered but still remained steadfast and strong in front of her followers as she continued to stand against .

"I-I see that you’re strong, maybe you could instead join our gang and when we eventually overthrow that bitch of a Duchess, you can help enforce a better world for people like us." She offered, arms spread open wide as she still held that cocky smile. "If not, we’ll be forced to do the sa to you what we did to those two."

I squinted my eyes dubiously. If she’s threatening , and the two she ntioned are two of the three people I’m looking for then... I just hope they’re okay.

I stared at her intensely as I asked, "I will not ask this again. Where is Astryza and Ashtraz?" My gaze literally burning the air around

like a mirage.

The woman, who’s na I STILL don’t know even after this, recoiled, her expression faltering as a couple of beads of sweat accumulated upon her forehead.

She stuttered as she responded, "F-F-Fine, I’ll take you to them, just to show you wh-what we do to those who don’t l-listen to ."

With that she gestured for

to follow her, and the crowd behind her parted to let us through.

I of course followed her along as she led

down sever dark and dingy back alleys and winding paths until we arrived at what was probably one of the nicer looking buildings in this area for whatever that’s worth. Not much I’d imagine.

She gave a special knock on the door and then whistled. The sound of sothing clicking could be heard as the door then opened. She gestured for

to follow her inside.

Once inside the person stationed at the door slamd it shut with haste. Clearly, they don’t want whatever’s going on in here to be known given how they’ve completely boarded up the windows and thrown a bunch of rags over them also.

Now that we were inside, the woman led

to a random unoccupied room filled with several crates, one of which she struggled to move even though it sounded empty.

After moving it though, she revealed a hidden trap door in the floor with a ramp leading down deep below the surface.

At least it’s not stairs.
