Chapter 257: First Period
I received my titable and saw that my first class ended up being...
Nothing.
That’s right, nothing. For the entirety of the first hour period, I had nothing to do.
Currently it was ten to nine and our horoom teacher, Miss Amoranaa, had let us go a bit early.
The first actual period started at five past nine and stopped at five to ten.
It would then repeat until lunch, then begin again at one. Fifty minutes a class and ten minutes to get wherever we needed to go.
And it would stop at five to five, aning there were seven periods in a day, each fifty minutes. Making for a total of five hours and fifty minutes a day spent studying.
And my first class that I actually signed up for wouldn’t start until second period.
I had two options. One, was to go to the library and study up on so things there or just read for fun. Two, is to go find a random class and see if I like it. I could also leave, but that’s counterproductive.
In the end, I decided to go and wander around to see if any of the other classes piqued my interest at all.
I had well over an hour to browse what classes there were. Which, considering how big this building is, isn’t a lot of ti.
The way the Institute was built, was absolutely fucking massive. And that was mainly to accommodate all of the classes for all of the different many years of students, as they always take in students every year.
That ant that this place was fucking massive. Absolutely ginormous. This place could probably fit a small city with how much space it takes up. Which is why there aren’t that many of these places at all across the Empire.
Anyways, it was split into three different sections, four if you counted the front which just housed the various extra facilities like the cafeteria, teachers’ offices and just general things that don’ really fit anywhere else.
Imdiately behind all the general facilities is where the general studies classrooms ar situated, with about three hundred classrooms for things from Finance to History and even Language and Archelogy.
To the left of the general section, was the physical section, which took a third up of the entire academy. Everyone was required to take at least one class there a week to keep their fitness up unless stated otherwise. Might take up so hand-to-hand combat lessons.
And to the right side, was the magic section, which also took up a whole third of the academy’s space. This was where everyone learned their elental magics and such, as well as anything else mystical in nature.
There wasn’t much there that interested
in terms of the magical side of learning, at least not yet. So, I decided to head towards the physical classrooms to see if they had combat training happening right now.
Or if they were going to have so, since there was still like five minutes before the bell rang to indicate that horoom was over.
*DING* *DONG*
I arrived at one of the training grounds just as the bell rang and saw a pair of teachers, both dressed in a gold trimd white kimonos.
They saw
and were confused because the bell had literally just gone off. But as soon as they saw
enter and saw what kind of robes I was dressed in, they ca over and greeted.
"G’day missy! What can we do for ya?" A male Serpentar asked as he tipped his hat, which had a similar design to his uniform and nodded in greeting.
"Hi, I was wondering if this was the hand-to-hand combat class for the new first years, and if not, could you tell
how to get there?"
"Ah, no. See we do things a lil differently for combat missy. See, ya have ta regista with the adventura’s guild and, based on your rank there, you’ll be assigned to a different class."
"Oh okay. Do I have to be registered with the guild though?"
"Nah, just makes things easier fur us is all cus we can assign ya to the class best suited for ya trainin."
"I understand. And which class is this for?"
"This is fa silva rank adventura’s. Ya welco ta watch if ya’d like."
"If you wouldn’t mind."
"Not at all missy. I see a class coming right this way as we speak, so just stand off to tha side an watch, kay?"
"Thank you."
"No problem missy."
I then went off to one side of the room, specifically an area where there seed to be so refreshnts in the form of water and snacks.
Then, I saw all of the students filing into the room. They all looked at
a little weirdly as they entered but ultimately paid no mind to my presence.
When they had all gathered in by the ti class was to start, the two instructors arrived in front of them and welcod them.
"Welco back to the Silver rank training grounds. Most of you are already familiar with how this works, but I see a couple of new faces in here. You must have just enrolled into the academy. Please co forward and introduce yourselves."
The second instructor, who was a Naga, and a male one at that, ordered in a strict tone, one filled with discipline and authority.
The newest students ca forward and introduced themselves to the rest of the class as instructed. Once they finished their introduction they returned to their place amongst the rest.
"Now, you shall all start off with a simple exercise lap around the room for fifteen minutes, then a five-minute break, then we will begin the combat training. Any questions?"
I could tell that they wanted to ask about , but the Serpentar instructor just shook his head from behind. Indicating it was better not to ask.
They all then began to race around the room at a similar pace, yet they were still going quite fast.
Then the Serpentar instructor ca over and began talking to .
"I know that ya probably don’t want people askin bout ya, so I did ya a favour. No need ta pay it back though, this is the kinda thing I live for."
"Thanks, I appreciate it."
"I also gotta apologise for the exercise, it’s the first day back and this is just what we do at the start of any sester or after an extended break of any kind. Vrakenz over there found that this was the best way to do things." He pointed over at the other instructor.
"Sothin bout how so people get lazy when they don’t have anythin to work towards. Or sothing like that at least, I can’t rember what exactly he said."
We then talked a bit more for the next fifteen minutes or so and he taught
about how the rankings of the adventurer’s guild worked.
They went from Copper, to Bronze, to Iron, to Silver, to Gold, then Platinum, then Diamond, and then into rarer tals such as Mythril, Orichalcum, Adamantium, and the highest rank of them all, Aetherium.
Those were all the ranks you could obtain at the adventurers guild with enough power and experience.
But before we could continue, the fifteen minute warmup exercise was over, and the students ca over to rest for a few minutes and get so water also.
The students also spoke to the Serpentar instructor, either for so advice or for adoration, to which he was more than happy to do. But that left
off to the side like a weirdo.
Not that I minded of course since I was only here to look.
When the five minutes was over, it was ti for
to see their combat abilities.
And I have to say, they were really good. I could most likely beat all of them in a fight with pure strength alone, but when it ca to combat, they had the upper hand.
All I could do was throw punches around and block attacks. I didn’t have any actual techniques that I could use.
Well, except for maybe [Divine Claw Slash] and [Tail Whip], but those were more skills that actual combat techniques.
A combat technique is supposed to be a series of moves that could be seamlessly used together to beat your enemy, even if they were more powerful than you. And I didn’t have such a thing.
I had good instincts at best which could tell
when an attack was coming, but I couldn’t counter it properly like these people could.
Which is why I decided that I would sign up for combat training classes.
I’d have to beco an adventurer and go on quests and such, but I didn’t mind. In fact, I looked forward to such things, as it ant that I could both train and hone my skills in real combat.
I could practice techniques here and put them into practical use out in the field.
Yes, that sounds like a great idea.
When the class ended, I went up to the Serpentar instructor after he said goodbye to his class.
"Why hello there missy! I hope that ye enjoyed what ya saw and that it helped ya figure sothing out."
"It did. And that’s why I ca to ask you about signing up to the adventurer’s guild." I decided it would be best if I just went ahead and expressed my desires.
"Ah, I see. Ya wanna get inta the combat classes but ye don’t wanna start out as a rookie yeah?"
"You would be correct. I was wondering if you could help
with getting
to Iron rank? I don’t wanna start out as a total newbie."
"Sure! Go there whenever ya have any free ti, tell them that ya wanna register and that I Berkez recomnded ya, m’kay?"
"Thank you for your help, Mr Berkez."
"No problem, you’d best be on your rry way now or else you might miss ya next class."
"Right, thanks again!" I said my goodbye’s and quickly headed off to my next class.
