After paying Emma her portion of the long, orange squash Serena had collected, Liz suddenly exclaid, "Collecting 280 pounds of vegetables has been completed. You have one requirent left to complete the cold season preparation mission."
It took Serena a mont to figure out that Liz was referring to the task of getting seventy pounds of four different types of vegetables. The system was just adding all the pounds together.
Now all that left was the at task and it was one less mission to complete. Those coins could not co any ti sooner because she might need to start taking so risks soon.
Kiro ran over to her as she walked around the village center, looking for him. The pair of siblings then headed to the hut where they found Theo cutting up the at he and Jason had hunted for the day.
Upon seeing them, Theo said to Serena, "We got so deer today. Do you want the fat?"
"Sure. You can add it to that wooden bowl." Serena pointed at a nearby wooden bowl. "I’ll co help in a mont. Just want to put all this food away."
"I can help!" Kiro exclaid, running over to Theo.
The tiger beastman began to instruct the cub on what to do, giving him simple tasks so as not to get hurt. While they were doing that, Serena headed inside the hut.
She put away the vegetables in their underground storage room, leaving the bundle of wheat she managed to collect in her basket. She also managed to find a bit of millet and barley, the latter actually in her field guide.
aning she had gotten so coins out of it.
She then entered her subspace with her basket and put the grains into her last empty basket. It’d take so ti to process them, so she’d do it in the evening. For now, she needed to do sothing else.
Serena grabbed the soap making book and went through it until she found the recipe she wanted to test. It required tallow, wood ash and water. Simple enough recipe, but with lots of processes.
Because she needed to turn the deer fat into tallow and the wood ash and water into lye. Then she’d mix the tallow and lye together, making sure not to touch the lye.
She’d need to make so fur mittens and if that wasn’t possible then she was going to have to get so protective gloves from the system. Because as much as it went against her own rule to not rely on products from the system shop, protection overruled that.
It wouldn’t rain for so ti, so for now Serena would just make tallow and collect wood ash and keep it in her subspace. Then when she had enough rainwater, she’d begin experinting.
Once she had making tallow morized, Serena exited her subspace. Theo was getting lunch going with Kiro’s help when Serena headed over to them. She grabbed the bowl with the deer fat along with so water.
She then moved to the other side of the fire, using so of the broken stones they had lying around to build a hollow base. Once it was done, she added so kindling and sticks to the center of the base.
This would require so experinting since she could asure the exact amounts out nor could she control the heat of the fire. But she had enough fat in her bowl for two or three rounds.
Once the fire was lit, Serena began chopping up the fat Theo had put aside for her. It would apparently render better if it was in smaller chunks rather than big chunks. Plus she needed to make the layer of fat she placed into the pot as even as possible.
By the ti she was done cutting up all the fat into smaller pieces, the fire had been burning for so ti. Serena placed the smaller stone pot onto her stone base, making sure it was stable enough.
Then she added so fat, creating an even layer on the bottom of the pot. It hissed as she worked, even creating a bit of steam as she poured in a cup of water. Happy with it, Serena covered it with a wooden lid and left it alone.
It needed to cook like that for about thirty minutes before she could begin stirring every so often. In the anti, Serena went looking for so wooden bowls to place the tallow into as well as an old clean fur to strain the tallow when it was done.
Cloth probably would’ve been better to strain the tallow, but she didn’t have that, so was making do with what she had. This was about trial and error.
Theo watched her for so ti before he finally asked, "What are you doing?"
"Attempting to make tallow." Serena answered. "If it goes well, perhaps I’ll be able to make so soap."
She decided not to hide what she was doing because eventually Theo was going to see the end result and figure out what she was doing. Besides, it wasn’t like he was going to divulge her secrets to anyone in the village.
It’d just make him look like a bad beast husband if he did and ss up their fake relationship. Of course, even if he did tell clothes about it, it wasn’t like she was going to make soap making a massive secret.
She did plan on perhaps teaching a few rabbit beastn on how to make soap because eventually she wasn’t going to be able to mass produce everything for the city.
The village was going to have to chip in too. That way they could produce a number of things themselves, becoming less reliant on other beastn settlents as well as gain more precious resources to elevate the city.
And turn it into a powerhouse like other cities.
Of course, Theo reacted exactly how she expected and cried out in shock, "What?! You’re making soap?!"
