Three weeks after the funeral of Queen Rira, King Dacre announced that he would take Princess Nycta as the future queen of the kingdom.
Princess Nycta was only seventeen, young and fertile. She was the best option for King Dacre to finally have an heir, since Princess Alana was too young and Princess Rose was already a little bit older.
The royal wedding would be held three months after the end of the one month mourning period for the previous queen.
It ant, it would happen by the end of this sumr.
With that news, Xaden and Alpha Roland had been very busy with their plan. They had so many secret etings and discussions about the next step that they would take.
Soti, Alpha Roland would invite Zuri to these etings, since it had sothing to do with their businesses and he needed her opinion related to those matters.
The treasury in the River Creek pack had been depleting quite fast by this point. So of their businesses were neglected.
After observing Zuri for about three etings and witnessing firsthand how adept she was at making business decisions, he finally realized she was the mastermind behind the success of the River Creek pack.
"I don't believe it... I missed it completely." Xaden said one night after their intimate mont. He looked satisfied with his mate. "Why did you never tell about it?" He kissed the corner of her lips, pressing his body against her, as he was getting hard again.
"You never asked," Zuri said, staring blankly at the ceiling.
Xaden chuckled. "I couldn't believe it, how could a woman be so smart. It shocked to know that you were the mastermind behind everything."
Zuri pulled herself back and drifted her attention to Xaden, who was nipping at her collarbone. "Tell about your plan with my father. I am sure I can give you a few pointers."
"What? Your father told you to ask about this?" Xaden lifted his head and looked Zuri in her eyes. "Tell , if you have to choose, will you side with your father?"
Zuri didn't answer that question imdiately, which made Xaden narrow his eyes, thinking that she would take her father's side.
"You are my mate, you are the luna of the Blackthorne pack. A woman belongs to her mate after the union." He reminded her about that.
If Zuri could make the River Creek pack as the richest pack in this kingdom, now that she was in his hands, it was only a matter of ti before he could use her brilliant mind for his own benefit. No wonder, Roland treasured his daughter.
Roland made a mistake when he decided to let Xaden know about Zuri's talent, thinking they would rule this kingdom together one day.
"You are mine now." Xaden leaned over to kiss her lips, but she turned her head and he ended up kissing her cheek instead. "What? Are you going to rebel against again?" He pinched her chin and forced her to look at him. "Are you going to side with your father?"
Instead of answering that question, Zuri told him about sothing that was not relevant at all. "I hate needles."
"What?" Xaden frowned, not understanding the sudden change of topics.
"My father uses needles to punish ." Zuri smiled at Xaden.
A day after they returned from the palace, her mother took her to the healer that usually prescribed her dicine. That woman increased the dosage to keep her mind sane, but the aftereffect of that was; Zuri beca a little bit sluggish every ti she took her dicine.
"He would stab with needles. He preferred needles because it will be less ssy, as they will not draw so much blood and also because the prick will heal almost imdiately, so no one would even notice that."
Zuri was smiling when she told Xaden about all of this and she could see the anger behind his eyes.
"Oh, he used to kick , slap and punch too if he was very, very, very angry with ." Her tone was very light, as if she was talking about a happy mory.
"He really did all that to you?" Xaden asked through his gritted teeth.
"Yes," Zuri replied. She raised her hand and caressed his cheek. "You look angry."
"Of course, how could he do that to you? Has he done that again after our union?"
"You are so funny." Zuri laughed. "Why are you angry when you did the sa thing to ? And yes, he beat up just a day before you returned from Mount Eve. I thought I was going to die."
Xaden averted his eyes when Zuri pointed out that he was no different from her father. He did the sa thing, but why would he be angry?
But, as if she didn't say anything wrong, Zuri kissed his cheek.
"Why would I side with the person who has done that to ?"
Xaden looked at Zuri again and then promised her. "I will not allow him to hurt you anymore.
I will not allow anyone to do that to you again."
But, there was one thing that Xaden missed. Zuri had never said that she would side with him
or pledge her loyalty to him. Her question was; why would she side with soone that had hurt her?
Xaden was too self centered if he thought Zuri would side with him when he did exactly the sa thing to her.
"Okay," Zuri said, she then flipped his body and cradled him, which made Xaden's eyes fill with lust.
He groaned when Zuri started to grind against him. He liked it when she took the initiative like this.
"Now, tell , what you and my father have been planning for the coup," Zuri asked, as she pleased him.
Probably, her mother was not completely wrong. In the end, Zuri used her body to achieve her
goal.
This world had made her feel disgusted with herself.
