Vivian Quincy thought Hayden Kaye must have gone insane to do sothing so terrifying. She struggled with all her might, but it was useless!
Hayden was like a frenzied beast—fierce, brutal, and reckless as he forced a kiss on her.
For the first ti, she felt an unbearable sense of disgust. She had never hated a man’s touch so much.
’I have a child! How could Hayden do this to !’
Vivian’s eyes reddened with anger. In a fit of fury, she slapped Hayden hard across the face.
The sound was crisp and loud, ringing with startling clarity in the otherwise deserted surroundings.
It hurt. But for Hayden, the pain wasn’t in his slapped cheek—it was in his heart. ’The girl I’ve loved wholeheartedly for six years actually hit !’
Hayden suddenly cald down, his eyes turning sinister, a storm of madness and jealousy brewing within them.
"Vivian Quincy, I’ll never let you go," he said through gritted teeth, looking as if he wanted to tear her to shreds.
Vivian took two steps back. Her face was pale with lingering terror. She took a deep breath. "I hope you’ll face reality. It’s impossible for us."
"Why is it impossible just because you say so? No one who sses with gets to walk away unscathed! If you want to let go, then give back my heart!" His hoarse voice was laced with undisguised hatred for Vivian.
The eyes that reflected her image blurred...
Vivian didn’t say a word. She turned and walked away.
She didn’t know where she found the courage, but she walked away, step by step, without looking back.
As she heard the man’s frantic shouts behind her, images of them together from years ago flashed through her mind. ’I’m no longer pure. I don’t deserve a man as good as Hayden. He deserves better.’
’I’ll just take the bla, then.’
Vivian walked quickly, taking the elevator straight back to her apartnt. She bolted the door shut and leaned her back against it, sliding silently to the floor. She didn’t even realize her eyes had filled with tears, blurring her vision.
Vivian wiped the tears from her eyes, went to the bathroom, and splashed so water on her face. Looking in the mirror, she suddenly noticed her eyes were swollen. ’I look so ugly when I cry.’
Her fingers gently caressed her reflection, tracing her own outline. Water soaked through the gauze on her hand and seeped into the wound. It stung, but the pain was not even a tenth of the ache in her heart. She wasn’t a cold-hearted person; she knew very well who was good to her.
Hayden was her first love, the first man she had ever loved in her life. But he was too exceptional, the sole heir to the prestigious Kaye Family. A man like him was destined for a brilliant, shining future. Vivian, on the other hand, had nothing—no family status, no background, no career. Nothing about her was a match for Hayden. The two of them were fated to have no future together.
After a bitter laugh, Vivian took a hot shower and collapsed onto her bed, exhausted. She checked the ti; it was already very late. She wondered if Beanie was asleep yet. Vivian was worried but didn’t dare to call. From what she recalled, Anna’s parents went to bed early. Since Beanie was staying at soone else’s house, Vivian was afraid a late-night call would disturb them, so she didn’t.
Her mind was filled with Hayden’s parting words. Vivian stared blankly at the ceiling.
Her phone rang. She didn’t know who was calling. She was too tired to answer.
Drowsily, she heard the phone ringing incessantly. Vivian rolled over, grabbed it, and saw that it was, of all people, Wanda Quincy.
She was suddenly overco with irritation. Annoyed, she pressed the answer key. "What do you want?"
"You sent your son to Anna’s house?" Wanda asked with a smile, her voice dripping with the arrogance of soone who held all the cards.
Vivian shot up in bed. "What are you planning?" she demanded sharply.
"Vivian, we’re sisters, after all. I didn’t want to make things ugly, but why are you so disobedient? How many chances have I given you? You still haven’t left. Are you waiting for to get rid of that bastard myself before you’re satisfied?" Wanda asked sinisterly. Having failed to take Beanie Quincy at noon, she had no intention of letting the matter drop.
Vivian, however, found Wanda’s behavior baffling. ’Wanda is already so rich. She has her own company and is a boss. She can have anything she wants. Why is she so dead set against ?’
’Why is she so insistent on driving and my son away?’
’What is Wanda afraid of? Perhaps... she knows sothing.’
After a long mont of contemplation, Vivian’s voice dropped as she asked, "Wanda Quincy, are you so desperate to drive away because you’re afraid I’ll find Beanie’s biological father?"
"Are you kidding? What does Beanie’s biological father have to do with ? Why should I be afraid?" Wanda sneered, but her voice trembled with guilt.
Even though it was faint, Vivian could sense it. "You’re lying," she said. "You are afraid."
"Nonsense." Wanda, feeling the embarrassnt of being caught, flew into a rage and cursed, "I’m talking to you about Beanie Quincy! Stop trying to change the subject! Are you leaving or not!"
"I can leave, but you have to tell who Beanie’s father is." Vivian’s tone was unyielding. She was certain Wanda knew. In fact, this was the only reason Vivian had co to the city. If Wanda would just tell her the na of Beanie’s biological father, Vivian would consider taking her son and leaving Crestfall.
’Then again, Wanda would never confess so easily.’
"How would I know who you had that bastard with?" Wanda mocked rudely, sneering. "Who told you to be so promiscuous and sleep around? You have a child with an unknown father and you co asking ? How should I know which random man you slept with?"
Wanda showed no remorse for how horrible her words were, intentionally trying to disgust Vivian and paint her as a filthy person.
Vivian felt a knot in her stomach, but she didn’t get angry. It was like trying to get ivory from a dog’s mouth—Wanda was just that kind of foul-mouthed person, and Vivian was used to it. In a low voice, she said, "Since you won’t tell , I’ll find out myself."
"Aren’t you ashad of yourself, looking for a father for that bastard? Behavior like yours is the sa as telling the whole world you got pregnant out of wedlock, that you were forced by so random man. If I were you, I would have killed myself long ago." Wanda’s words were unspeakably cruel and sharp.
Vivian laughed with rage, a cruel arc forming on her lips. "If you and your mother aren’t ashad after what you did, what do I have to be ashad of? At worst, I’ll just shift my focus to Jasper Ford."
"You dare!" Wanda suddenly snapped.
Vivian said, "If you dare touch a single hair on Beanie’s head, I’ll dare to make a move on Jasper Ford. You hate , don’t you? I wonder if you’ll still be so arrogant when you see lying in your man’s bed."
"Jasper would never fall for a woman like you! If you dare to even touch his bed, I’ll skin you alive, chop you to pieces, and feed you to the dogs!" Wanda roared, her voice filled with murderous intent.
Vivian let out two cold laughs and hung up, leaving Wanda to fu and rage on the other end of the line.
