Every ti she thought about that night, Vivian Quincy’s mind would flash back to the paternity test results for Beanie and Laura King, and the intimacy she’d shared with that old man, Jeremy King. It was her nightmare, the sha of her life. She never wanted to rember anything that happened that night for as long as she lived.

"I’m begging you, please stop asking." Her eyes were red from crying as she pleaded pitifully with Jasper Ford.

For a mont, the stone-hearted Jasper Ford was actually shaken. His cool fingers gently brushed away the tears from the corner of her eye. That night, that other girl had cried just like Vivian Quincy, in a way that tugged at the heartstrings.

The impression she’d left on him was too deep, so strong that every ti the lights went out and he was with Vivian Quincy, he couldn’t stop himself from connecting her to what happened that night, casting her as the heroine of that mory.

Jasper Ford even thought, ’I must be going crazy.’

It wasn’t the first ti.

He had associated this filthy woman, Vivian Quincy, with the clean, pure girl from that night. How could Vivian Quincy possibly compare to her?

Jasper Ford’s wavering heart instantly turned cold and hard. His jet-black eyes were rciless. "Speak!"

"Jasper Ford, don’t force ." Vivian Quincy refused to speak.

Jasper Ford let out a soft laugh, pinching her smooth chin. "Vivian Quincy, you’re in no position to negotiate with right now. You’ll say whatever I tell you to say. Who the hell is Wanda Quincy? Why did you agree to her promise? Do you owe her sothing?"

"I don’t." Vivian Quincy shook her head.

The corners of Jasper Ford’s thin lips curled. "Then why do you listen to her?"

"I have a child. I have Beanie. I have soone I need to protect. I don’t want my words to put them in danger, so I can’t say anything." Vivian Quincy recalled Wanda Quincy’s warning. If she could harm Beanie once, she would do it a second, a third, and a fourth ti.

’Her goal is for Beanie to die.’

But Jasper Ford said, "Are you saying she would hurt Beanie? Impossible. As long as I’m here, she wouldn’t dare."

"Hah." Vivian Quincy looked up as if she’d just heard the funniest joke in the world. "Jasper Ford, it’s precisely because of your favor and protection that Wanda Quincy has everything she does today. How could it be impossible?"

"Right now, she’s the high-and-mighty female boss of a publicly listed company, so successful no one can even touch her. And behind her, she has you, the Crown Prince of Crestfall who can bend the city to his will! She’s beco a woman that almost no one in the entire city dares to cross!"

"And ? I’m just a lowly assistant. I’ve gotten on her bad side, so what am I supposed to do? It’s not that I’m afraid of her, but I have Beanie to protect. You’re rich, you’re powerful, you could make Wanda Quincy lose everything with a single word, so you think she’s nothing and not to be feared. But I have nothing."

"You’ve never been a father. You have no idea what it feels like to watch your own son be bullied while you’re completely powerless to stop it. Have you ever felt that?"

"What gives you the right to say she wouldn’t dare? You have no idea how evil she is! You have no idea that to get what she wants, she would destroy soone without a second thought, even kill them, and think nothing of it!"

Vivian Quincy roared hysterically, her words a barrage of accusations.

Her tirade left Jasper Ford speechless.

He truly hadn’t considered all of that, nor had he expected Vivian Quincy to beco so frantic under his questioning.

He frowned, the sharpness in his eyes softening sowhat, and his voice beca much gentler. Releasing Vivian Quincy from where he had her trapped in the corner, Jasper Ford leaned back lazily on the sofa, his long legs crossed naturally. He flicked a lighter, igniting a cigarette. The small fla was piercingly bright in the darkness.

Smoke filled the room, and the agitated Vivian Quincy gradually cald down.

She hugged her knees, her eyes brimming with tears as she watched Jasper Ford’s strange behavior, unsure of what he was trying to convey.

One minute... three minutes...

Ten minutes passed. The cigarette had nearly burned down to the filter, but Jasper Ford had only taken a single, token drag. He then stubbed it out in the ashtray and said, "I promise you, I can protect Beanie’s safety."

"I don’t believe you." Vivian Quincy shook her head.

Jasper Ford asked, "Why?"

Vivian Quincy answered, "Because you’re Wanda Quincy’s fiancé. Even if you aren’t anymore, your six-year relationship wasn’t just for show. No matter what I say today, the scales in your heart will inevitably tip in favor of Wanda Quincy, not my son and ."

"I won’t," Jasper Ford promised firmly. He had no feelings for Wanda Quincy; in fact, he could even say he was disgusted by her.

Seeing that Vivian Quincy didn’t believe him, Jasper Ford said, "The only reason I gave Wanda Quincy everything she has today was to take responsibility. I have no feelings for her whatsoever."

’Take responsibility?’

Vivian Quincy was confused.

But the man was unwilling to explain.

Vivian Quincy thought about it carefully and suddenly understood. ’n really are all pigs,’ she thought. ’Sleep with a woman, lose interest, and then act like this.’

Still, for Jasper Ford to give Wanda Quincy so much even after losing interest in her ant he was, at least, a man of his word.

Vivian Quincy asked, "Then tell , why do you want to protect Beanie?"

"Because I like him. I can’t stand to see him suffer, and I especially can’t stand to see him get bullied."

On this point, Jasper Ford wasn’t lying. Although he didn’t know why he had such a fixation on and fondness for Beanie, it was true that he could tolerate anything except for seeing others bully the boy.

Even knowing the little guy was full of hot air and his words were half-truths at best, Jasper Ford was still very fond of him. Even when he humiliated Wanda Quincy for no reason or bullied anyone else, Jasper only found Beanie adorable. He even felt a strong urge to aid and abet the little tyrant.

Jasper Ford knew what Vivian Quincy was going to ask next, so he said, "It’s your turn to talk."

Vivian Quincy was left speechless. She lowered her head, her small hands twisting together anxiously.

"Think it over carefully." Jasper Ford didn’t intend to press her further.

Vivian Quincy took a deep breath and, finally, couldn’t hold it in any longer. "Wanda Quincy is actually... my sister."

A flicker of astonishnt crossed the man’s eyes. He had known their relationship was significant, but he never thought it would be...

"I’ve checked Wanda Quincy’s household registration. Her family only has two people: Fiona Hughes and her," he said, his voice deadly serious.

Vivian Quincy said, "I’m the adopted daughter. Fiona Hughes found and took in."

Jasper Ford’s gaze was complicated as he looked deeply at her.

Vivian Quincy gave a choked, self-deprecating laugh. "You don’t have to look at like that. I’m not lying to you. I don’t know how I ended up with the Quincy Family. All I know is that I was abandoned as a child, and Fiona Hughes was the one who took in."

"I used to think that because Wanda Quincy was her daughter, Fiona Hughes was only good to her. Later, I found out I was just soone she’d picked up. After so unpleasant things happened, we cut all ties, and we haven’t been in contact since."

"As for why all this is happening now, it’s all because of you. You knew perfectly well I couldn’t afford the penalty for breaking my contract, yet you forced to stay and work at Imperium Group. Little did you know, Wanda Quincy has co to about this many tis."

At this point, Vivian Quincy looked at Jasper Ford very seriously and said, "I’m just a simple working woman. My only dream is to earn money and raise Beanie. I don’t want to get involved in the infighting of you rich families. So, can you please let go?"
