Chapter 51: Chapter 51: Gritting Teeth_1
Lin Yue had no intention of compromising when it ca to dealing with her elder sister-in-law. She pursed her lips and provoked Zhao Erhu purposely, “Who knows? Last ti when my sister-in-law beat the child, you didn’t even fart about it. You forbid from seeking justice with her and locked up at ho. Well, that’s your own sister-in-law after all—the child was beaten for nothing. And , an outsider woman, it’s as if I’m a sickly, bad on who might just drop dead any day. Now if she beat to death, it would just clear the space for you to marry another woman. Maybe you’re secretly pleased about that.”
Such spiteful words could actually co out of her mouth. Zhao Erhu always thought he had treated Lin Yue nothing short of holding her in the palm of his hand recently. Couldn’t this girl feel his kindness at all? He had long stopped caring about his elder sister-in-law. Besides, his own sons, like Dalang, were beaten by her—how could he not be distressed? But due to various reasons, he couldn’t do anything. Lin Yue’s words stabbed him, especially when she cursed herself like that, Zhao Erhu was so angry that he felt like spitting blood. He wanted to argue a few words, but ultimately held back out of fear that Lin Yue was injured.
“Stop spouting nonsense! You know very well what I think. Ask your conscience, have I not treated you well since you married into this family? Is there any point in saying these things to stab at over the matter with my sister-in-law? Just lie down and stop acting out; I really will get angry,” Zhao Erhu said sternly, yet he gently covered Lin Yue with a blanket.
Zhang Chunhua watched the couple quibbling and tried to diate, “Good sister, listen to Erhu; he’s your man and will take your side for sure. You can rest assured. The village chief and great-uncle are here too. They’ll uphold justice for you. Just do as Erhu says and lie down. A head injury is no small matter, and if you’re not careful, it could lead to lasting health issues.”
“Fine, then I’ll listen to you,” said Lin Yue, not insisting any longer. Not to ntion she was so dizzy she could hardly muster the energy to confront her sister-in-law; even Brother Erhu would definitely not agree to let her go out. Thus, her fighting spirit waned and she looked pitifully at Zhao Erhu, “Brother Erhu, then I’ll leave the matter to you. You have to stand up for and the kids. Otherwise, I swear on my life I’ll seek vengeance on my sister-in-law. And don’t forget, she smashed our belongings, she should pay for that, and the dical expenses too.”
“I know, you!” Zhao Erhu saw Lin Yue like this—half amused yet content, having finally soothed her before heading to the main house.
Once he was out the door, the smile on Zhao Erhu’s face and all traces of warmth disappeared in an instant. His expression turned icy, and upon seeing his sister-in-law, his eyes reddened with a destructive hatred. He barely managed to restrain from acting impulsively. Heaven knows that when he saw Lin Yue lying on the ground, covered in blood, he genuinely felt the urge to kill. His precious wife, whom he wouldn’t even let be touched, was bullied to this extent after not seeing her for re monts.
“Sister-in-law, how do you explain today’s incident? Where has my wife wronged you to deserve such a ruthless beating? Even enemies wouldn’t go that far. If you don’t give a satisfactory explanation, I’m afraid we won’t be able to get past this,” Zhao Erhu glared at Zhao Lan, each word seething with rage, the veins on his forehead bulging visibly.
Zhao Lan had never seen her nephew, who had always been so patient, look like this; she shivered all over, terrified and guilty, she even began to stamr, “Erhu, don’t be like this. Your sister-in-law… your sister-in-law didn’t an to do it on purpose. Who knew what ca over your wife… she just rushed up and started it.”
