Lin Yue looked at Sanlang and couldn’t help but feel as if a witch had arrived, but in truth, the aunt was even more annoying than a witch. Upon Sanlang’s shout, the children reflexively hid the household’s food. Dalang went to run outside, but Lin Yue, worried that Zhao Erhu’s return might impede her plans, called Dalang back. Only when the aunt was almost at the door did she let Dalang go to call soone, but she specifically instructed him to walk slowly.
Although Dalang didn’t understand the reasoning behind Lin Yue’s actions, he obediently nodded and slowed his pace. But he couldn’t help worrying—could his frail stepmother really overpower the aunt? Watching Dalang leave, Lin Yue called Erhu over and whispered a few instructions to him, “Erhu, do you rember what you have to do?” Lin Yue patted Erhu’s head and watched as the aunt Zhao Lan’s plump figure drew closer, smiling sowhat malevolently.
Erhu wasn’t as simple and straightforward as Dalang, who would do whatever he was told. Thus, after Lin Yue’s instructions, his face showed so doubt and worry, “I rember, but how do you know for sure that the aunt will hurt you? If she does hit you, you should dodge quickly. Big Brother has already gone to call for Dad, and when he cos back, he will protect you. Then, the aunt won’t be able to do anything to you.”
As clever as Erhu was, he still possessed the intellect of a child and could only feel that sothing wasn’t right on instinct. Could his stepmother predict the future? Coupled with the long-standing impression of the aunt’s ferocity, concern was the predominant feeling in his heart, and he hadn’t yet considered that this might be a ‘trap’ set by his stepmother.
“If your dad cos now, it will spoil everything, and we won’t have a fight. Don’t worry, this ti your stepmother is intending to ‘once and for all’ deal with the aunt so she will never dare to trouble our family again. Rember how the aunt beat you last ti? Just wait and see, watch how your stepmother avenges you,” Lin Yue reassured as she patted Erhu’s shoulder and then faced the disdainful Zhao Lan.
“You must be Erhu’s wife, skinny like a bamboo pole. Anyone can see you’re no good at giving birth. On your very first day here, you fell ill and had your man wait on you. Such bad luck, our Erhu must have had eight lifetis of misfortune to marry soone like you,” Zhao Lan ca bursting with anger stirred by Wei Fangcao and with extre dissatisfaction towards Lin Yue, had no pleasant expression and scrutinized Lin Yue with a critical eye, speaking harshly.
This aunt was truly unreserved—Lin Yue had planned to provoke an argunt, but there was no need; the aunt had already started berating her without giving Lin Yue any respect as her niece-in-law. Thus, Lin Yue had no more concerns to hold back.
“What are you standing there dumbly for? Have you no sense to welco an elder inside? Don’t think just because you married into the Zhao Family you’re safe. Be careful, or I’ll have Erhu divorce you,” Zhao Lan pointed at Lin Yue, who was staring at her in silence, and spoke threateningly.
At this mont, Lin Yue did not wish to argue with Zhao Lan. She silently took the indignant Erhu and the other children inside, then watched as the aunt rummaged through the kitchen. Feeling it was almost ti, she grabbed a porcelain jar from the corner of the wall and smashed it on the ground with a bang. She then rushed forward and began assaulting Aunt Zhao Lan, shocking the children.
