Chapter 329: I Hate His Scent

"Although it would be quite good if you started looking for a wife," Old Master Lenort added. "You currently have no standing as of now, I hope you do realize that."

Ryan stared at Old Master Lenort in disbelief. How could he say such things to him? It hasn’t even been up to a month since his wife’s death, and he already wants him to look for a new wife. His wife hasn’t even been buried yet due to the autopsy nonsense, and he wants him to find a wife.

Was that how low his father regarded Natasha?

Ryan had a lot he wanted to pour out, but knowing nothing good would co of it, he balled his hands, tightening his grip on the knife and fork.

...

As they returned to their bedroom, Avelina gripped Draven’s wrist, stopping him and forcing him to look at her.

"Draven."

Draven faced her and asked, "What’s wrong?"

"What is the heat thing that your father spoke of? The full moon and sothing?" Avelina probed.

"Oh?" Draven blinked. "It’s nothing much. It’s a full moon, so during this ti, we would constantly seek blood, especially the ones that have mates. No amount would be enough during this ti."

"And what about the heat thing?" Avelina further asked.

Draven stared at her for a few monts and inquired, "You really wish to know?"

Avelina nodded, swallowing hard.

Draven exhaled and proceeded to explain, "We royal-blooded vampires go into heat during this ti, Avelina. They are monts where we constantly want to indulge with our partner—sexually, to be precise. And no, we cannot control it because we are nothing more than berserk individuals then, unless we take suppressants constantly."

"And as you heard from my father, we are out of suppressants. Also, this ti is the most perfect for mating. Our kinds usually mate during their heat because the production of offspring is very much guaranteed. It lasts for a few weeks to a month," he clarified.

Avelina darted her eyes around, suddenly feeling uncomfortable. "Then...what about you? What do you plan to do about it?"

"Huh?" Draven was bewildered by her question.

Avelina balled her hands, bravely looking into his eyes. "What do you plan to do? You will go into heat, right? How will you deal with it?"

Draven rubbed his back, smiling awkwardly. "Um...how else?"

"What do you an?" Avelina frowned at him. She was seriously hoping it wasn’t what she was thinking. "Are you saying you are going to spend your ti with... won?"

Draven shook his head at her, amused. "Won? No, I’m not so kind of beast. Just one woman. I will pick soone and—"

"And mate with her? Will you also have offspring with her?" Avelina cut him off, starting to sound off.

Draven was a bit taken aback. "Mate? Offspring?"

"No, of course not. Why would I mate or have an offspring with soone I don’t really know?"

Avelina loured at him, starting to get angry. "But you said that you would find—"

"Mating does not work like that for us, Avelina," Draven interrupted her. "To mate with soone, you have to mark them. The sa goes for creating offspring. You cannot produce an offspring with soone you did not mark."

"So, no, I do not plan on marking whoever it will be. I’m just going to be satisfying myself. That is all."

Avelina was not very convinced, but she seed to have felt so sort of relief within her.

"But...you marked

a lot of tis, Draven. Does that an you—"

"Oh, no." Draven chortled softly. He patted her head, saying, "When it’s only one person that does the marking, mating will not work. For mating and the creation of an offspring to actually work, both have to mark each other."

"And since you are neither a vampire nor even a half, it won’t work. I am the only one who marked you, you didn’t do the sa, so do not worry, you are safe. Besides, I would never have just anyone mark ."

Avelina, although relieved, felt a huge wave of disappointnt course through her at the sa ti. She’d truly gone crazy to hope it would have worked. She could not help but almost chuckle inwardly at her own stupidity.

Draven ruffled her hair all of a sudden. "Do not worry, Avelina. I marked you because I wanted to leave my scent on you. I needed you to sll like

so that no one would harm you."

"Sll...like you? Do I have your scent?" Avelina was stunned.

Draven gave a nod. "Pretty much. You didn’t know?"

"Of course not!" Avelina shook her head. She quickly sniffed herself. "I can’t sll your scent on ."

"Silly!" Draven laughed, flickering her forehead. "It’s normal that you can’t. Only vampires can sll it on you. I’m not really sure about other humans, but I can’t sll my scent on you. I can only sll your real scent."

"If soone else were to mark you, it would overshadow my own scent, and you would begin to sll like him. Even having close contact with another male can put a dent in my scent. aning it would be half of his scent and half of my scent, but it does not last like a marked scent does. Once you shower or sothing, it disappears." He shrugged.

Avelina drew her head back, having never known of this. She looked up at Draven with broadened eyes. "Does that an I slt like Edward that day?"

"Yes." Draven nodded. "You had his scent all over the place, but I wasn’t going to force you to wash it off. You had no idea after all, and that was why I stayed close to you. I needed it to go away. I hate his scent." He was straightforward with his words.

Avelina could only stand and gaze at him. All this while, she had no idea she’d been slling like Draven. She never even knew getting marked caused such a thing.
