Chapter 153: Did I Hurt You?

It was subconsciously said, as Avelina had failed to control her intrusive thoughts. Without saying a word to Draven again, she quietly got off the bed, walked into the bathroom, shut it, and locked it.

Then she rested against the door, slid down to the floor, and buried her face in her palms. With no restraint, she began to weep, deeply embarrassed.

Why, Avelina? Just why? How will you look him in the eyes now? She sobbed even more, unable to imagine standing face-to-face with him without at least recalling how terribly she had just disgraced herself.

Why did I even ask him that? She questioned herself and lifted her head, confused. Has she been wanting to do that? To kiss him?

No! No! She frantically shook her head. Impossible! Why would I even want to kiss him?

Avelina batted her lashes and took deep breaths to calm herself down. I’m sure it’s the side effects of these things happening to . I will be just fine once it is all over.

She smiled at herself, wanting to remain optimistic. She rolled the candy with her tongue and smirked, surprised.

"This tastes good." She chewed on it, breaking it into pieces.

Whether I like it or not, I will and must face him! It was just a slip of the tongue—yes, that’s what it is.

Avelina inhaled and exhaled and finally gained the courage to walk out of the bathroom. She grabbed the handle and opened the door.

She stepped out, but a startled gasp fled her mouth when soone grabbed her by the shoulder and pushed her against the wall.

She furiously flickered her eyes, her heart racing in fear. She lifted her head, and her gaze t those soft reddish ones.

"Draven..." She was not sure what was happening.

Draven examined her from head to toe and looked into her eyes as he inquired, "Are you okay?"

Avelina was quiet for a few seconds before replying, "Yes, I am." She nodded.

Draven heaved a deep sigh of relief and let go of her.

"Did I hurt you? I’m so sorry. I was just worried because I thought you had collapsed in there again," he apologized with a look of concern.

Avelina stared softly at him. She could not seem to utter a word, and all she could do was simply smile as though in a daze.

Draven was not sure why she was beaming, but he smiled back at her and went ahead to ruffle her hair.

He turned around to walk to the bed, but Avelina grabbed the hem of his coat. Draven halted. He turned around and looked at her.

"Hm? Is sothing wrong?" he inquired.

Avelina lowered her head, not able to hold eye contact with him. She took deep breaths before beginning to stutter her words.

"W-well, um...about what happened earlier, I didn’t an it. It was a slip of the tongue. I didn’t even know what I was doing." She chuckled awkwardly.

Draven gazed at her before cackling softly.

"You are silly, haha." He playfully patted her head.

Avelina could only stare at him, surprised. So, what was she so worried about? This man didn’t even take it the way she expected. He seed carefree and did not mind at all.

"I was so scared for nothing." The urge to sob again overwheld her.

Draven tilted his head, perplexed. "Why? Why would you feel scared? Did I do sothing that made you feel that way?"

Avelina shook her head. "No, it’s just...never mind."

She began to walk off to the bed, but Draven grabbed her wrist, stopping her.

"I feel like I am missing sothing, Avelina. I am sorry that I do not understand, but could you at least make

understand? I hate that I do not comprehend certain things, and I can’t figure out how to unless it’s explained to ."

Avelina gazed at him and smiled.

"It’s really nothing, Draven," she said.

Then she proceeded to ask, "Do you know what it really ans to kiss soone?"

"Huh?" Draven blinked his eyes. "I don’t understand what you an by that."

Avelina took a deep breath. "Have you never kissed soone before or been kissed?"

"I have," Draven replied. "My late wife."

"How did you feel about it? How did it make you feel?" Avelina was genuinely curious.

Draven tipped his head to his side as he thought about it. "Hm...I don’t know."

"Huh?" Avelina was baffled. "You didn’t feel anything? Not even butterflies in your stomach."

"Butterflies? Why would I feel butterflies in my stomach? I did not eat one." Draven furrowed his brows, finding it quite ridiculous.

Avelina chuckled, amused.

"No, no, no, not in that way. Feeling butterflies in your stomach is... a feeling, an emotion that you sense from sothing intimate...romantic...those kinds of things."

"Oh..." Draven slowly nodded his head.

"Yes." Avelina bead at him. "So I am asking you if you felt sothing like that."

Draven took a deep breath and shook his head. "No, I did not."

"Why?" Avelina appeared quite skeptical. Everyone definitely feels sothing from a kiss as long as they do feel sohow about that person, so how could he not?

Draven scratched his head before responding, "I don’t know. I did not feel anything. It was a bit uncomfortable, actually."

"Oh...that’s surprising..." Avelina’s expression switched to one of disappointnt. So if she had gone with it and kissed him, he would have felt nothing and, above all, uncomfortable!

At that mont, the relief of having not gone ahead with it washed over her. But at the sa ti, she felt sad. His lack of emotions was horrible indeed.

She could not bear kissing him only for him to feel nothing. She frantically shook her head before suddenly being hit by realization.

Wait! Why would I even kiss him in the first place? Why do I keep thinking about this? What is wrong with ? She scrunched her face in confusion.

Draven, who had absolutely no idea what was going on in her mind, pulled her cheek. "You look adorable."

Avelina quickly looked at him before her scrunched face switched to a smile. She stepped closer to him and hugged him.

Draven ruffled her hair, gently stroking his hands against her back.
