After eting Mr. Jing yesterday afternoon, she didn’t cry, not even when Jing Jihan rushed back overnight from Hong Kong.

Sitting in the old house, she watched everything around her and rembered when she and Shi Mianmian stood by the bedside, looking at the man who was covered in wounds and unconscious, both of their faces blank. She couldn’t hold back and cried alone in the master bedroom. When Mianmian saw her red eyes and asked what was wrong, Shi Su only ntioned that the room was dusty and irritated her eyes.

Later, she sought out Wei Sinan for help.

She asked him to perform this act.

Of course, just a couple of short lines didn’t accomplish much.

How could Jing Jihan not know whether she had been married or not?

In the old house’s neighborhood, the night lights were dim, and occasionally so street lamps were broken, making certain stretches of the path pitch black.

At eight o’clock at night, Jing Jihan followed the signal from her earlier phone call and located the place. The black Bentley parked under the old apartnt complex, and when he saw the light in Shi Su’s window, he called her.

Shi Su didn’t shut off her phone after Wei Sinan had left, but she selectively answered calls from many others, even ignoring so calls from business partners.

Until Jing Jihan’s call ca through, she looked at the familiar number and answered.

"Hello," she spoke, sounding as usual.

"Shi Su, give a reason." The man looked out at the darkness through the car window, the old neighborhood seed to revert to the ti six months ago, with its old four-pane windows, clean sheets, the sll of dicines and disinfectant in the air, and the small white bear by the bedside.

Shi Su stood by the window and saw the car parked downstairs.

That’s what she said: the first ti she saw this black Bentley here, she felt it was completely out of place.

How could such a car appear in such a place?

How could soone like Jing Jihan belong to her?

She kept looking in the direction of that car and said, "A lot of what I said on Weibo was ant for the dia. I know you are clear about whether I’ve been married, so it doesn’t hold up for you. But still..."

Shi Su lightly placed her hand on the cold window sill, the chill perating her heart.

"You rember asking if Mianmian had a father, and I said her father died. Actually, Mianmian’s father has always been abroad. Though we never married and indeed had no contact for years, he did co looking for . We once had feelings for each other, but we parted ways due to irreconcilable differences. No matter what, he is Mianmian’s biological father. Even though Mr. Jing, you might be very good to Mianmian, and she might like you a lot, you can’t erase this fact. He’s back now to give Mianmian a normal, complete family."

"Only when a child’s biological parents are together can it be considered a complete family, a healthy family, which is the best choice for Mianmian, isn’t it?"

"I know everything that happened today places in the category of heartless and even a bad woman, but Jing Jihan, you should have known from the start that I am a woman with a child who cannot see her own position, imrsed in all the goodness you’ve given , wrongly believing I could hold onto the goodness even I don’t dare believe in. Returning to reality, Mianmian needs her biological father and a complete family. Even if you were to hold onto , I should consider Mianmian and can’t selfishly deprive her of her father’s love. So, after making this choice, I hope Mr. Jing that you no longer entangle ."

Jing Jihan listened to her lengthy speech.

"Shi Su, do you think I can’t tell which sentence is a lie?"

Shi Su closed her eyes, then opened them again, smiling lightly, unsure if it was mockery or sothing else, but said in a very soft voice, "I, Mianmian, and Mianmian’s biological father are the family, that is not a lie. Thank you for still showing respect, not choosing to co upstairs and knock, not causing more disturbance for and the child. After all, Mianmian’s father is also here, and I don’t want anything uncontrollable to happen, and if neighbors see it, it would be embarrassing. This is all I have to say, we are all adults, each draw the line, no entanglent. Thank you, goodbye."

She hung up the phone directly.

He watched the light in Shi Su’s window go dark, as night fell, the living room lights dimd, and the bedroom lights darkened.

The black Bentley remained parked under the old apartnt complex, never leaving.

Residents of the area occasionally walked past the car, pointing and whispering curiously at the car that was completely out of place in such an environnt, filled with envy but cautious not to touch the vehicle, fearing having to pay for damages.

All night, though the car lights were off, the car remained unmoved.

Until dawn.

Until Zhou He called: "Mr. Jing, Mr. Zhou specially flew in from Hong Kong and is ready to discuss cooperation, showing great sincerity. He’s already at the company."

Jing Jihan looked out the car window at the old neighborhood, as snow began falling again last night in Jiang City, covering the car with a layer of white.

He checked the ti: "Ten in the morning, we’ll et in the company’s reception room."

"Alright, Mr. Jing."

This was probably the coldest year in Jiang City, with the most snow in its winter history.

Jing Jihan’s car drove out of the old neighborhood, returning to the company, back to where he belonged, the Yu Jing Group still standing proudly in the city’s center, its modern architecture reflecting cold brilliance.

Everything remained as usual.

Almost as if in these many years, Jing Jihan had always been alone, as if Shi Su had never appeared.
