Chapter 73: The Guardian And The Demon
After the eting ended, the admirals of the five legions hurriedly left the conference room to start preparing for what was to co. Quillan, in particular, was eager to leave and took a team of top researchers from the Alliance Military Research Institute to the Fifth Legion on Hecaris.
Overnight, the Fifth Legion’s base gained a heavily guarded research facility. There were guards every 25 ters and sentries every 100. Even their own people needed to give blood samples and undergo genetic testing to enter or leave the secure research institute.
While the outside was busy, Arix was focused on discussing the Psychic Healer issue with Vita.
"Vita, are you sure this thod will work?" Arix asked, almost thinking she had misheard what Vita told her.
"Arix, it’s a bit gross, but this thod can indeed treat most psychic power problems," Vita replied innocently.
"But saying that Cupid eats the Insectoid Core and then, um, expels it to treat psychic power issues seems too far-fetched," Arix said, still in disbelief.
Earlier, Vita had suddenly told her about a solution to psychic power diseases while they were listening to Matis and Sims argue. Arix had been so happy she didn’t ask for details and even told the two old n about it when she left. Now that she knew the thod, she found it hard to believe.
"It’s not far-fetched. The Insectoid Core is made of concentrated psychic power. In human terms, it’s like ’you are what you eat,’" Vita explained while diligently nding so fragnts.
"Then why hasn’t anyone in the Alliance figured this out? It seems too simple," Arix asked, puzzled.
"Because they don’t have Cupid," Vita pointed out the crucial factor.
"Cupid?" Arix was even more confused.
"Yes, only Cupid can eat the Insectoid Core and then expel it, leaving so of Cupid’s beneficial psychic power in the Core. This Core can then be used as a dicine ingredient. Combined with a special treatnt potion, it can cure different psychic power diseases. Plus, the psychic power from Cupid can be absorbed by the patient’s body, potentially even boosting their psychic power," Vita explained patiently.
Vita was Arix’s Psychic Incarnation and shared Arix’s knowledge of dicine. The only difference was that Arix wasn’t a Psychic Incarnation and didn’t know these things. If Arix had to discover this on her own, it would probably take a long ti.
Unless one day Cupid accidentally swallowed a Core and expelled it, Arix would never discover this by coincidence. But thankfully, with Vita’s presence, Arix could avoid decades of detours.
"I understand now. Thank you, Vita," Arix said, suddenly enlightened and a bit happy.
Arix knew very well how powerful Cupid’s psychic power was. For example, the violent psychic power in the Insectoid Core that everyone else avoided was just a snack for Cupid.
Vita called Cupid’s psychic power a dicine ingredient because it could possibly cleanse the patient’s psychic world of disease and hidden dangers. Therefore, Cupid’s psychic power was essential for making the psychic power treatnt potion. Without Cupid, it would be impossible to create the psychic power treatnt potion at all.
After figuring out Cupid’s role, Arix, who didn’t need to nd fragnts anymore, began studying how to combine dical ingredients to cure various psychic power diseases.
First, for example, she rembered the potion that destroyed the Old Arix’s psychic world. Arix needed a core from Cupid, plus fla flowers and gravity-free grass to fix it.
After creating a potion for one psychic disease, Arix started researching other psychic power diseases, such as:
- Psychic power rampaging (attacked by a stronger psychic power)
- Psychic power shrinkage (due to aging or other reasons)
- Psychic power poisoning (from being poisoned)
- Psychic power contamination (impurities infecting psychic power)
However, while studying, Arix encountered a new problem. For diseases like a totally shattered psychic world, even the strongest potion seed useless.
’Will we always need Vita for such issues in the future?’ Arix thought for a long ti but couldn’t co up with an answer. Finally, she looked at Vita for help and asked, "Vita, can anyone else nd the fragnts of the psychic world?"
Vita thought for a while and nodded hesitantly, "Yes."
"Really?" Arix asked in surprise, "How?"
"Well..." Vita seed reluctant to speak, then extended a tentacle to cover his forehead and said in a resigned tone, "After cleaning the impurities from the Insectoid Core, I eat it and then, um, release it. It will have my psychic power. Then the psychic power in the Insectoid Core can be used as a thread to nd the fragnts."
Arix covered their mouth with a small tentacle after hearing this. No wonder Vita looked so reluctant before; it was really difficult for him to tell this hard truth.
But Vita and Cupid were truly amazing. One seed like a guardian of life, the other like a demon of destruction. They were so impressive!
Thinking this, Arix suddenly beca curious and asked, "Vita, if Sophia ate the Insectoid Core and released it, would it also have a healing effect?"
Vita laughed, "Arix, only Sophia can’t do it. And don’t ask Sophia this question; she might hold a grudge and ignore you for a long ti."
Arix scratched the back of their head with a tentacle and laughed awkwardly, "Don’t worry, I won’t do that."
If Vita was a kind elder and Cupid was a cute little one, then Sophia was like the strict school principal. Even standing there silently, Sophia made Arix feel intimidated.
Arix gulped and shook their head, then focused again on researching psychic power healing potions.
Ti flew by.
Arix stayed in Draven’s psychic world for three whole days. During this ti, apart from being given nutritious fluid and occasionally checking on Draven’s consciousness, Arix focused on researching the dical ingredients for psychic power healing potions. Now she had a lot of theories going on in her mind, and she only needed so final experints to get accurate answers.
Arix felt it was almost ti to leave. She looked at Vita’s progress and saw that Vita was also nearly finished.
Shortly after, Vita completed the last stitch, tied a knot, and then returned to Arix’s side, saying, "Arix, you can release his consciousness now."
"Okay!" Arix opened the psychic power box and released Draven’s consciousness.
The diamond-shaped crystal cautiously left Arix’s hand, and after confirming there was no danger, it started flying around the psychic world. Arix and Vita watched the excited and even mischievous diamond-shaped crystal with fond smiles.
After exchanging a glance, Arix and Vita left Draven’s psychic world together.
The crystal paused, circled around where they disappeared, and then anxiously flew around the psychic world like a lost cub looking for its mother.
If Vita were still there, they would probably be holding their head in exasperation, as this clearly indicated that Draven either had amnesia or had gone a bit crazy, seemingly mistaking Arix for his mother.
Arix didn’t know yet that she was about to gain a "big child." When she opened her eyes, she saw Nyx and an unfamiliar old man staring at her with an intense expression.
Suppressing her urge to punch, Arix moved closer to Sims and observed quietly.
Sims saw his granddaughter scared and slapped Quillan on the back of the head, saying disdainfully, "Calm down, you’re scaring Arix."
"Oh, sorry." Quillan didn’t get angry despite the slap. He imdiately collected his fervent expression and beca serious and dignified.
"Hello, Arix. Let
introduce myself. I am the director of the Alliance Military Research Institute. My surna is Quillan." Quillan smiled, now looking like a refined and handso old man.
"Hello, Director Quillan," Arix said politely, shaking his hand.
However, after shaking hands, Arix noticed that Director Quillan, who had just been normal for a little while, was once again looking at her with a fanatical gaze.
Arix was so confused.
At this mont, she distinctly heard the respectful image of a certain big shot in her mind shatter.
Arix had always thought of Quillan, the president of the Alliance Military Research Institute, as a cool and wise figure. But seeing this old man behaving like an overzealous fan, Arix felt like her idol had fallen from grace.
