"You said that Dirk Carter is quite formidable, but I don't see it that way. I thought he would argue with me, but as you saw, he didn't even dare to make a peep."

Kanes Bates said disdainfully.

Gilbert Dixon said, "I didn't expect him to swallow such a big loss silently, it seems I've really overestimated him."

"Alright, don't worry about it anymore, he's also a coward. After this incident, he won't have much influence in the Municipal Government office. When the public anger rises, you can make your move, and I'll give the bonus back to you. By then, even if he's the top official in the office, his words won't carry any weight."

"Hahaha, then thank you, brother."

Gilbert Dixon laughed.

Kanes Bates waved his hand, saying, "We're brothers, there's no need for formalities..."

...

After leaving Kanes Bates's office.

Dirk Carter did not immediately return to the Municipal Government office.

Instead, he went to the top floor of the Municipal Government Building and knocked on the door of Fabian Vincent's office.

With a creak.

The door opened from the inside.

It was not Fabian Vincent who appeared, but a woman, dressed in a stylish women's suit, wasn't anyone else but Eve Vincent, who had been mistaken downstairs just the day before.

"Uh... I'm looking for Mayor Vincent, is he here?"

Dirk Carter asked.

Eve Vincent smiled sweetly and replied, "He has something urgent to attend to temporarily, he'll be back soon. Why don't you come in and wait?"

After she spoke.

Eve Vincent opened the door wide.

Dirk Carter didn't think much and walked in.

Eve Vincent invited him to sit on the sofa and poured him a cup of tea, then quietly sat on the sofa beside him, picked up a book, and began reading intently.

Dirk Carter's eyes swept over her face.

In his heart, he marveled at the resemblance; she looked exactly like Talia.

But the difference in temperament was too great.

At this moment, Eve Vincent suddenly looked up, made eye contact with Dirk Carter, and instinctively touched her face, asking, "Is there something on my face?"

"No... nothing, I just think you look a lot like a friend of mine,"

Dirk Carter said.

Eve Vincent put down the book in her hand, laughed, and said, "Oh? What kind of person is your friend?"

"How should I say it? She's a very unique woman, belonging to the wild and unruly type."

"Do you prefer the wild type or the quiet type?"

Eve Vincent suddenly asked.

Dirk Carter was taken aback, suddenly unsure how to answer.

After pausing, he asked, "Is there a possibility that you are the same person?"

Eve Vincent smiled faintly and said, "It seems we really look alike, otherwise you wouldn't have mistaken me once and still say such a thing."

Dirk Carter suddenly stood up.

Closed in on Eve Vincent and asked, "Are you Talia?"

Eve Vincent smirked and said, "Sir, don't you think this pickup line is a bit old-fashioned?"

"It's you, don't think I can't recognize you."

Dirk Carter said confidently and suddenly reached for her collar, grinning mischievously, "A person can have different makeup, but your tattoo shouldn't deceive anyone, right?"

After speaking, he tugged forcefully.

Eve Vincent's women's suit was pulled apart.

The left shoulder was exposed.

Inside the suit was a white bustier.

Half of her fair flesh was revealed.

On top of the flesh, it was smooth and white, fundamentally devoid of any butterfly tattoo.

Dirk Carter's mind exploded.

He wished he could immediately find a hole in the ground and hide.

Such rudeness made him appear as a scoundrel.

Just as he was about to explain.

There were footsteps at the doorway.

Eve Vincent quickly covered herself, and Dirk Carter could only resignedly return to his seat.

This is better; now he didn't even have the courage to look at Eve Vincent.

The door opened.

Fabian Vincent walked in.

Dirk Carter quickly stood up and greeted, "Hello, Mayor Vincent."

Fabian Vincent gestured for Dirk Carter to sit down and then turned to Eve Vincent and said, "Eve, you should head back first. Dad has some work to handle, I'll talk to you about that matter tonight."

"Okay."

Eve Vincent nodded.

She looked at Dirk Carter with some resentment before turning and leaving.

Dirk Carter also let out a big sigh of relief.

If Eve Vincent told Fabian Vincent about his rude behavior, he really wouldn't know how Fabian Vincent would deal with him.

"Do you have something on your mind?"

Fabian Vincent asked as he sat down opposite Dirk Carter.

Dirk Carter paused, then said, "Mayor Vincent, there's an issue I'd like to report. I've heard that the Cultural Tourism Bureau is facing financial difficulties recently, and I have a proposal: the Municipal Government's departments could stop issuing bonuses for half a year and allocate the funds to cultural tourism projects. What do you think?"

Upon hearing this.

Fabian Vincent's brow furrowed.

He reprimanded, "Dirk Carter, what nonsense are you spouting, aren't you being too eager for quick success? Sacrificing everyone's interests just for your political achievements, how did you come up with this?"

Upon hearing this.

Dirk Carter deliberately retorted, "Mayor Vincent, I'm acting with the bigger picture in mind, considering the overall situation, and I've already ordered the stoppage of bonuses in the Municipal Government office. I think what I'm doing is right."

With a snap.

Fabian Vincent slammed his palm on the sofa's armrest.

He said angrily, "The bigger picture? What bigger picture? Nonsense bigger picture, I think you're just eager for quick success."

After speaking.

Fabian Vincent stood up.

Went directly to his desk.

Picked up the phone and dialed a number.

The call was quickly connected.

Fabian Vincent glared at Dirk Carter viciously and said, "Is that Immanuel Henderson? I'm Fabian Vincent. I've heard that the Municipal Government office has stopped issuing bonuses to allocate to the Cultural Tourism Bureau, is there such a thing?"

"Yes, Mayor Vincent."

Immanuel Henderson said over the phone.

Fabian Vincent sternly said, "I don't care who gave this order, cancel it immediately, if there's another occurrence like this, I think you don't need to be the Finance Bureau's director."

"Alright, alright, Mayor Vincent, I'll cancel it right away, I'll cancel it right away."

Immanuel Henderson was scared.

Said submissively over the phone.

After hanging up the phone.

Fabian Vincent pointed at Dirk Carter angrily, "This time I won't hold it against you, but if there's a next time, I definitely won't let you off easily."

"Okay, Mayor Vincent, I promise there won't be a next time."

Dirk Carter said humbly.

"Alright, I still have matters to attend to, you can leave."

Fabian Vincent said irritably.

Dirk Carter was secretly delighted.

Said regretfully, "Then I won't disturb Mayor Vincent any longer."

After speaking, he opened the door and left.

This result was within Dirk Carter's expectations.

For a simple reason.

Firstly, stopping bonuses and allocating funds to the Cultural Tourism Bureau was inherently unreasonable, and he knew that Gilbert Dixon was only using Kanes Bates to suppress him.

Secondly.

Fabian Vincent disliked him; as long as it was something Dirk Carter wanted to do, Fabian Vincent would certainly oppose it.
