It was ant to be just a kiss! That’s what he’d promised himself. But things didn’t turn out as expected. Once his lips tasted hers, an innate hunger clouded his thoughts completely shutting reason to him. All he wanted was to reach to that spot on her neck, and when he did, his blood boiled.

The itch in his gums was all it took for him to beco a lost cause. All instinct left him and the only thing he desired was the feeling of blood around his mouth. Strangely, he had had more than enough earlier in the tavern!

But her scent lingered in the air, mixed with that of her blood. He felt his nails grow and dig deep into her flesh, his very eyes turning bloody red. And when he spotted the vein on her neck, his beastly instincts kicked in, over clouding his mind.

His fangs brushed lightly on her tender skin. And his fangs, he noticed, could elongate and retract at will. But that was a discovery to ponder on later.

The scent was even stronger with his nose close to her skin. He could already imagine how she’d taste, but their was only one way to find out!

He opened his mouth ready to sink his fangs when he heard a distant voice in his mind. For once, he thought it was his mind playing tricks on him and resud his advances. But then the voice ca again, louder this ti.

"Gab... Your wife...," were the only words he picked. He froze on her neck, his fangs slightly piercing her skin. Wife!? Why did the word sound familiar yet strange at the sa ti. His throat started burning when a drop of Elena’s blood landed on his tongue.

This! What type of blood would make him so thirsty? At this point, he’d suck whoever possessed it dry to quench his thirst. But why was he thirsty all of a sudden? He’d drunk a glass or two in the tavern, and he could go for a month without tasting a single drop as many other bastards.

Surprised, Gabriel lifted his head to et with a figure of a woman lying on the bed. She appeared foggy at first before his eyes adjusted into her view.

He parted his lips to say sothing but the words were curbed in his throat. She looked frightened with watery eyes staring back at him! He noticed his hands pinning hers above her head which he quickly retracted. How did it co to this? When did so much happen in a short span of ti?

"I knew you would never hurt ," she said. In place of horror on her face was pride. Pride!? Did she know what he was about to do?

He stared at her blue eyes, the very thought of what would’ve happened to her if he’d succumbed to his desires bringing fear to his being.

Fear!? Yes! He’d never feared anything, not even death! But this woman... He just didn’t know the feeling but he’d never forgive himself if he hurt her.

She stretched her hand to touch his face but he was quick to get off the bed, miles away where he’d not inflict any pain or fear on her. Truly, she deserved better than him!

Her face grew worried again and he hated himself for it. Either way, he’d been hurting her! She sat up, the fresh wounds he’d inflicted on her back painting the once white sheets red. The scent of her blood wasn’t making it any easier for him either.

"I hurt you," he said, fear and guilt laced in his voice.

Elena spotted the blood as well but she wasn’t scared, and it scared him! Wasn’t she scared of him after everything he’d done, after what he almost did?

"You would never hurt ," she said, her eyes vibrant. The wetness in them was gone, now replaced by sothing he couldn’t put his finger on.

"You don’t know that. I almost did." His voice was drawn to a whisper as if speaking the words out would make it a reality.

"But you didn’t." She looked hesitant before she slipped her feet in a pair of sandals. Her every action was only acting to make Gabriel scared, when she was the one supposed to be in his shoes. Wasn’t that what humans did when they spotted vampires?

"You don’t understand," he said backing for the door with every step Elena took towards him. "Everyti I kiss you... I feel lost. All I just want is to hurt you, suck you dry!"

"I can help you," she said, her eyes laced with determination. The way she was looking at him made Gabriel feel like a lost child.

He shook his head, biting his lips hard. "Even I can’t help myself. Trust when I say I tried."

"We can do this together," Elena tried to console but Gabriel was adamant. He shook his head and unbolted the door.

"I’ll be a threat if I stay here tonight especially with the scent of your blood." His eyes settled on hers. "Good night Bunny." He forced a smile and before Elena could complain, he stepped into the darkness and disappeared there, as if embraced by it.

Elena stood in the doorway for a fleeting couple of minutes staring at the dark empty hallway. It was cold but her worry for Gabriel was too much she didn’t care. The thought that he was out there, alone in the darkness, wallowing in self pity and guilt because of her strengthened her resolve.

Gabriel wandered around in the streets of the capital headed nowhere in particular. His thoughts were a ss, but he was certain he had made the right decision. He could still pick her scent on the tips of his nails, so strong his throat started burning again.

He stumbled upon a pleasure house and he was certain he’d find blood in this establishnt. And he needed a lot! If possible, a whole barrel for himself! Only that much would be enough to quench the thirst he was currently feeling.
