"Thank you." I say to the Uber driver once I step out of his car. I want to tell him not to go back to Killian but I’m not the one who booked the ride and Killian will be furious.
My lips form a line and I wave gently. "Have a nice drive back." I say, looking inside the car through the window. The window is wound up.
The driver flashes a smile and mutters sothing. It was a ’goodbye miss’. He drives off.
I turn around to face the mansion before . This is an estate and apart from the lights on the street, no other lights are on. Not even from inside the buildings. This place looks awfully dark and it’s awfully quiet as well.
Did I get the venue wrong? I open my purse and bring the invitation out. I hold it open with two fingers while supporting it on my hand with my other fingers. I hold my phone in my other hand along with my purse and type the address on Google maps.
Even Google leads here. I stand outside in front of a building. I didn’t give Carol my number, nor do I have hers. I guess I’ll have to stand here awkwardly till soone cos out or another guest arrives and wants to go in. I sigh.
Outside is so quiet and it has worried. I’m sure if I hold my breath for a second, I’ll hear crickets chirping.
Wait, there’s no need to hold my breath, I already hear them. I groan subtly and tap my fingers on my dress, pouting my lips to a side. Natalie did wonders with my outfit by the way. I was so freaking impressed. It’s a dress alright but here’s the catch.
It’s a jumpsuit as well. An outer layer envelopes the front, making it seem like a body hug, rmaid dress but due to the pants, I have easy movent. Vein-like lines runs from the huge triangle puff at the shoulder down the outfit and it’s filled with fake blood. The best part about it is, it glows crimson red in the dark. Not to talk of the thin branches which shoot out from each vein, giving endless, destroyed tree of life aura. The design is so sophisticated and words can’t even begin to describe it. I don’t care if I made this outfit for a fantasy thed night, I will wear this again the next chance I get.
I sigh, looking around. Don’t parties usually have people buzzing all around with obviously blaring music and lots of lights? Why is this one different?
How long do I have to wait here? I walk forward, heading to the front of the mansion with the sa number printed on the card. I’m having second thoughts about this movent but the air is getting colder and I don’t want to head back disappointed. I had so much high expectations for tonight.
Plus, I have friends to spam my photos to.
I take careful footsteps forward. My heeled shoe is attached to the pants of my jumpsuit dress. The best part about it is I can take the heels off any ti I feel tired of having it on and keep the heel in my purse.
Natalie might be shitty..... sotis, or just once... but she’s a fucking good designer!
A smile forms on my lips. I hope taking this outfit off won’t be as hard as it was to put it on. I clear my throat. Now that I’m in front of the house, I don’t know what to do.
I fold my wrist and hold my hand in front of the door. I don’t know if this is a wise choice. I swallow.
Well, I can’t stand here either. If the venue of this event was changed, then I should’ve been notified. But how? Carol doesn’t have my number and I haven’t been in my dorm. If she indeed passed a ssage, I would’ve missed it.
Ugh! Curse you great sex! This is all because of you!
I sigh and ring the door bell instead.
Now, all I can do is wait. I purse my lips and stand here awkwardly. There has been no answer for the past, long, few seconds.
I sigh and raise my hand up to ring the door bell again when a voice makes flinch.
"Who are you and state the code!" A lady says in witchy humour.
So there is soone inside. That’s good. But, what code?
"Hazel Sumrs." I say my na and look at my invitation card. I can’t sight a code. I turn the card around. There are four numbers behind. "14243." I murmur, crossing my fingers.
"Co in! Follow the glow." The lady says and I hear a ding as it disconnects. That’s not the only weird thing to happen tonight. The door cos open.
I am skeptical but I want to step in anyway. What did that lady an by ’follow the glow’? I push the door forward slowly. My eyes widen imdiately.
Now I get what she ant. From the entrance, there’s a huge decor hanging from the ceiling, like a fake door pillar. Written on it like a crankily carved, eerie font is ’CO IN IF YOU DARE’.
I swallow, looking at the design. The door shuts behind . That makes gasp.
This isn’t what I had in mind when I read Carol’s invitation but this definitely passes the vibe check. I take a step forward and sothing lights up.
My heart skips a beat as I stare at it. It looks like a real human’s, bloody head, chopped off and hanging from the ceiling but I can tell it’s a prop. I’ve never seen a dead human’s head before, but one thing I know is it doesn’t glow.
I take another step forward And three more things hanging down lights up. That’s when I notice that so of these things are balloons.
My goodness. These things can give a heart attack. Who the fuck was in charge of these props? Who the fuck is the artist?! I hope that person was paid for well, because what in the world?
I take another careful step forward and sothing pops in front of , making scream. The echo of a jester’s laugh resonates through the walls. My heart is pounding heavily in my rib cage. I swear, I want to run out of this haunted place imdiately but I don’t think I can.
The door shut without closing it. I think that passed a ssage. I clench my hand around my phone. The urge to turn on the flash light is high but I don’t want to see more terrifying things.
I stand up, barely maintaining my composure when sothing taps my shoulder. That was the last straw for and I scread, falling down. That didn’t stop from crawling backwards on the ground while following the glow.
A laughter rang in my ears followed by an applause. My brows furrow and I stop crawl-running. The thing that tapped was a human and this person seed to enjoy my turmoil. "Hazel, it’s , Carol." The person says.
She does sound like Carol. My heart eases for a second. "Don’t ever do that to again." I yell. The house is dark and I can’t see anything but the glow. I hear footsteps approaching.
"I ca to get you." Carol’s voice sounds louder. Light flashes in front of my face, causing to close my eyes. I block the rays with my hand. That’s when I get a glimpse of Carol’s face. She’s holding her hand out. I manage to take her hand and she pulls up.
My ass hurts from the fall.
"You okay?" Carol asks, obviously trying to hide her laughter.
"I don’t know." I thought I was being haunted, as crazy as that sounds. "Take sowhere crowded with people, please." I beg.
Carol hands a cup. It’s empty. I take the cup from her. "Have a drink to cool down a bit." She offers nicely.
I do need a drink!
I hold the cup out. "Thank you." I say.
Carol holds a bottle in front of and opens it. I don’t know how she had that the whole ti but I can barely see anything. She pours a half full cup. I take a sip.
My head feels lighter already. "This is alcoholic." I murmur.
"In a teen party, when isn’t there alcohol?"
Valid point. I chuckle and drink more.
"Mix it with this. It adds to the flavour." Carol suggests. I hold my cup out. She cocks a very tiny bottle open and pours the content in my drink.
I giggle. "That’s the smallest bottle I’ve ever seen."
I hear her chuckle. "Now swirl your cup gently to mix."
I do as Carol says.
"Drink it." I look at her. I plan to. I bring the cup steadily to my mouth. This mix better be worth it.
