- HAZEL -

I shouldn’t be thinking of doing this. I’m used to getting drunk but not high. I’ve never smoked weed before nor sniffed or swallowed coke or crack.

I’ve always had the fear of damaging my lungs. Maybe I should look for soone who snuck vodka or alcohol instead of drugs.

"Hazel! I’ve been looking everywhere for you!" Soone screams. I would recognise that voice anywhere. It’s Kate. I examine the hall to find her and sight her walking to . I turn back to see Kaiden and quickly avert my gaze. I told him I was going to use the bathroom.

"Let’s get out of sight first, Kate." I say to her the mont she’s by my side and pull her forward with .

"Okay." She says to without hesitation. "I’ll catch you later Heather. Don’t finish up without ." She says to the lady she ca with. I wasn’t even polite enough to smile to her. Heather was gone by the ti I turn to the side so I continue walking forward. The mont I was sure I am out of sight from Kaiden’s view, I sigh.

I walk down the three steps leading to a smaller section of the hall. There’s a double red curtain hanging from both sides of the entrance walls. It’s fastened to the walls but covers a portion of the room. That’s where I’m standing with Kate, behind one of the curtains.

"Are you okay? You seem kind of off." Kate asks carefully. I take a deep breath and sigh.

My fingers make its way to my chest, trying to calm my heaving chest.

"Oh my goodness, that’s a very lovely necklace." Kate stretches a hand out to touch it. "Fuck!" She whispers. "It’s wickedly beautiful. Damn! I’m jealous. And it’s real." She keeps staring at it. This isn’t how I expected she would notice it but I love the admiration. If only Kaiden noticed it too or at least got it for .

"Where’d you get it?" Kate finally asks. I wish she didn’t. Her fingers gently prowl over my neck then my ears.

My eyes dulls and I fake a smile. "It was a gift." I stretch my hand forward and tap the tip of her nose gently. "I don’t kiss and tell."

Kate grins. I’d rather let her have the assumption that Kaiden got it for than allow her make assumptions that’ll make worry.

"So, why’d you drag here?"

"Because-" I run my eyes on the ground, looking for the perfect excuse. "I wanted to ask you if you know anyone who snuck in alcohol. These drinks are basic." I laugh.

Kate stares at with wide eyes. I question my choices for a second, she’s my best friend and we’ve done worse together so why the face?

I bite my lip nervously. A wide smile gradually forms on her face. Now she’s laughing.

Okay, she has confused.

"How on earth did you know where my mind was at?" She giggles and smacks my arm gently. "I have eyes and ears everywhere. I know who is bringing what." She whispers in my ears. "I was headed to grab so for myself. Girl, you’ve got the best bff ever!"

"You realise you just said best two tis, right?" Not to talk of adding ’ever’ after ’f’ which basically ans forever.

Kate gives a side eye, maintaining her smile. "Because I am."

I chuckle, I’ll let her have this one.

A sigh of relief escapes my mouth. I have no idea why I was nervous before, I didn’t need to be. Kate starts taking careful steps forward. I walk by her side with no idea where she’s going. As long as it’s far away from Kaiden, I’ll follow her anywhere. Sothing also tells that if I stay close to her, I’m likely to pass by Killian. I want to see him and ask him myself to find out I wasn’t hallucinating.

"You know," Kate starts, breaking the short silence between us. "So people found out who the caterers were and made a little bargain."

My brows furrows. "Go on, I’m listening." Things that start this way always end up being shady.

"They spiked so of the things that will be served on the nu." I almost choked when she finished this statent.

WHAT?! And she’s involved in this? I have so many questions.

"And before you freak out, It’s just things on the students’ nu. No professor or anyone from the school board will be on our tail. Even if they find out, we aren’t the cooks. We got this covered."

"By making soone lose their job if this goes wrong." I murmur.

"Trust , what we paid that cook should last her a life ti. I an, it’s drugs, she obviously demanded a high price." That’s quite reasonable, if I was in her shoes, I would do the sa. "Once the appetisers are served, everyone will be floating in the clouds." Kate raises her hand up. "Including ." She pouts as she points a finger to herself still leaving her hands in the air.

I just noticed her outfit. She’s wearing an off the shoulder, black dinner dress which hugs her torso and flows down from her hips yet outlines her figure perfectly. Kate’s dress has a slit that draws up to her thighs. Then there’s her silver shawl! That’s my favourite part of her outfit. It wraps around her fully exposed back and dangles on her arms. It also complints her silver jewelry and neatly styled up hair. Her hairstyle makes her neck look long and small.

Kate is beautiful. She has always been beautiful.

"You look beautiful."

"As always." She grins.

I roll my eyes. "Yes, as always." I breathe out heavily. "Now, for so alcohol."

"Oh yes, got it!" She snaps her fingers. "Co with ." It is now I realise we’ve been walking in circles. This nearly makes crack up. Of course we have, this compartnt is too small to take the many steps we shared in during our conversation.

Kate said walks up the stairs. I scan the room before following her. Kaiden isn’t where I left him. I wonder where he’s gone but it’s probably for the best. "Um Kate," I call, trailing behind. "Remind what dishes will be laced tonight."

She turns to look at . "I guess we’ll find out together." Kate winks. She doesn’t know? That is sothing to worry about.

Just great. Now I have to worry about not having to eat sothing for the fear of it being drugged while also trying to wonder when I’ll find Killian during which I’ll be avoiding Kaiden and have my head wrapped around how I got this jewelry set I’m putting on.

My night just beca everything I thought it wouldn’t yet no one seems bothered about anything. Why would they? They’re not . They don’t have issues like I do. And they certainly want to get high. Imagine bribing a cook!

I scoff and roll my eyes. Kate stops walking to talk to soone. I don’t pay attention to their conversation.

All I have to do is get drunk enough to pass out and avoid eating anything. The chances of soone getting caught seems very high and I doubt the school will be lenient while executing punishnt.

*

I’m drunk. Ridiculously drunk and happy. I laugh, holding my tenth glass of juice to my mouth. This juice, like everyone I’ve had tonight, is half full with vodka aning I’m drunk as drunk can be.

And I’m still drinking.

If I get caught, I’ll probably suffer the consequences but that doesn’t seem to matter right now. My head feels too light to worry about anything right now. A wide smile forms on my lips. I take another sip.

Rember when I said I wouldn’t eat anything to avoid being high? I lied. I got hungry and had food anyway so add high to the list of what I feel.

My brain is scrambled yet I love it.

And I won’t stop drinking nor eating. I take a step forward and almost fall. This makes giggle. I am so high that I’m tripping myself over yet this feels good. So good.

I keep moving forward with imbalanced steps. I risk having a stomach ache later but I’ll let the future hold what awaits , right now, I will live in the mont.

I shut my eyes close so tight and open them. I feel sleepy. I look around.

Why doesn’t everyone else seem sleepy? All I can see are unicorns and fireworks then chess symbols moving around which I assu are humans.

Of course they don’t look sleepy. They don’t have faces. They’re chess people!

I shake my head and shut my eyes again. Part of knows I’m only seeing things because I’m drunk and high and I’m listening to that part of . I think I should go to my dorm. I have to.

Or do I? I don’t know. I laugh, still walking forward. I don’t know where I’m walking to but I keep going.

Figures are finally making sense in my eyes again and I can see things more clearly. I take another sip from my drink.

"I need a ride to take to-" A deep voice rings in my ears.

Even in this state, I can tell who the owner is.

"Killian!" A lady gasps, affirming my thought.

My cheeks burn as my lips spread wider. That human being owes a lot of things. I try to keep my head stable and find him by his voice when my heels clash on sothing, causing to nearly fall. Luckily, my hands grab onto an object I can’t seem to wrap my head on, which saves from the near accident.

Curse you feet! Even you can’t stop from eting him. I try to stand up straight with the support of the object. I think it’s a pillar. I look up and my eyes lands on a familiar face.

It’s Killian’s! My gaze lowers. With a woman.

Not just any woman, from her dress, I can tell it’s Kate.

I don’t know what they’re saying but I know they’re talking. About what? What kind of conversation leads to such proximity? His hands are all over her. I want to walk away but at the sa ti I don’t want to. Even if I do, I won’t be able to slip away unnoticed with my current state so I stand here and watch.

A lump forms in my throat. Not knowing what they’re saying really sses with my head and it’s not supposed to.

I shut my eyes again and open them, trying to stay awake when I behold another sight.

My heart crushes as I watch the back view of a lady who I know so well lean up to kiss him. The alcohol wears off imdiately. This ti, it resurfaces as a headache.

I’ve never wanted to run away so fast like I do right now. Tears fall down my cheeks. I’m still staring at them, this is so fucked up!

Between the two of them, the man I chose was Killian.

I lift my hand up to

wipe my face but the tears keep pouring down my cheeks. I can’t bear it anymore.

I can’t bear to look at him shatter my heart again.
