- HAZEL -
Kaiden walks into my room. I’m on a hospital bed, awaiting the dical report. Being a Crest sure cos with advantages. I’m in a special suite to begin with.
And I thought my parents have money.
"What did the doctor say?" I ask, tapping my fingers on my thighs, expectantly. No one has said anything to after my x-ray.
"I’ll give you the bad news first, although both might please you very much."
I smirk. "Go on."
"You shouldn’t walk or participate in any activity till your ankle is better. You’ll have to be in the hospital for a week for constant check ups." Kaiden said. I’m assuming this is the bad news.
"And the good one?" I ask with a smile forming on my face.
"You get to miss practice without damaging your credit score. I already phoned the coach. And if your regeneration process is smooth, you can leave the hospital to watch the ga. That’s it." Kaiden says, walking to my side.
I try to hide the smile gradually forcing its way to my lips. I don’t want him to know I’m pleased by this information although I think he already guessed it.
"It’s okay, be real with . I know."
That’s when I burst out laughing. "I never thought being in pain would make happy this much, it’s crazy! I think I’m insane."
"There’s so form of sanity in that. It happens to the best of us." Kaiden winks.
My eyes widen in realisation. Oh my. "Tell one thing, have you hurt yourself purposely or not just to avoid doing your duties?" I give him that ’don’t lie to ’ stare, completely intrigued. I wonder what I expect to hear from his answer to my question.
He chuckles and leans his face so close to mine. My eyes are fixed in his blue eyes, getting lost in them. "More or less." Kaiden says. His voice is deep. I let my eyes wander down his eyes to his light pink lips, then his neck. That Adam’s apple is sexy. "Sotis, responsibility is quite demanding. I enjoy them and always do them, but sotis, I just want to run from them."
He shouldn’t say this while being this close to . My body is literally paralysed right now. Kaiden moves away. "But I can’t. It’s one of the back side to being the first born. Everyone depends on you. Your parents, aunts and uncles." He walks towards the end of the room, holding his hands behind his back. His back is facing . "Nephews and nieces." He chuckles. "Even grandparents and younger siblings. It gets so choking but there’s no one to run to." Kaiden exhaled. I can hear the despair in his tone.
That made my eyes divert to my sheets. I’m not the first born and I don’t know what it feels like because I’m the only female child. I’ve had everything handed to . Heck, even a dumbass ex! I took a deep breath in.
Yet, sohow, I understand how heavy the responsibilities can be. My parents have high hopes for to make sothing of my life. I am ant to have great grades to do everything else that I enjoy, they need to be sure that I am not getting distracted by other activities they deem unimportant.
I sighed.
"Well, that makes the two of us." I blurt out, soaking my lips with my saliva to keep them saturated.
Kaiden turns to face , he has a warm smile spread across his lips and uncertainty is written all over his face. He doesn’t know anything about nor how I relate to his situation so I think that’s what brought the uncertain look. These few seconds of silence made feel uneasy till he sighed, maintaining his smile. "Yeah, it sure does." His voice is suave.
This has thinking deep. "So, Kaiden,"
"Hm?" He interrupts. I am about to ask the biggest thing ever. Maybe not necessarily the biggest, but to my nineteen year old self, it is.
"Does my offer still stand?" I bit end of my lower lip while pinching my index finger. Kaiden was silent, like he was waiting for to remind him of the offer. "To have a drink soti?"
He grinned. "There was never an offer.."
"Well, I’m requesting for one now." My heart is pounding hard against my ribcage. "If that’s okay with you." I proceed to blab. "I totally don’t want you doing anything you don’t want to-"
"The offer is splendid. A drink will be nice. Maybe more than one."
"So it’s a date? Can be entirely friendly." I shrug. Deep down, I know I don’t want a friendly date.
A chuckle slid in my ears, "Hazel, if I wanted sothing friendly between us, I won’t be in this room right now, having certain thoughts."
That made gasp. I lunged my body backwards, to sit up and lean on my pillow. "What kind of thoughts?" I whisper, staring at his eyes.
Kaiden walks to and puts his hand on my jaw. I tilt my head to the side to let his fingers move freely. He strokes my chin gently with his thumb. "Very-" Kaiden mutters huskily.
"Oh God, Hazel! You’re okay!" Soone yelled, gushing into my room. My face flattens. It’s Kate.
I am cross she interrupted us, now I don’t know what he wanted to say, but at the sa ti, I’m relieved to see my bestie. I avoided her all day, I miss her.
Kate ran to . Kaiden just gave us space and acted invisible. I don’t know if she saw him because she hasn’t glanced his way yet.
"Oh Hazelnut, I’m so sorry. I heard you needed to take a break from sports to get better and that you’re in the hospital-" She pulled in for a hug. "If only I wasn’t standing so recklessly and let that girl knock us over and-" Kate kept ranting. I don’t want her to bla herself for what happened to . What happened to was Killian’s fault, twice!
"Kate, first off, deep breaths. This is not the end of the world and I’m not dying, do breathe." I say. She parts her body from mine a little and takes deep breaths, following my up and down hand movents. "Secondly, you’re not the reason I’m here. I tripped. Oh I miss you so much." I pulled her in for a hug.
"Sa here. I thought you were avoiding because I threw a ball at your face by accident."
I smile, I would never. Although I feel bad she thought this way. All because I decided to call that jerk! "If you throw a ball at in the future and I avoid you, know an alien took over my body. I’d spike your food with sothing instead."
Kate laughs. "Noted for future purposes."
"Good." Now she pulled away and sat on my bed. Kate sizes from head to toe and sigh. "What did the doctor say?"
"Stuff." I nod, taking a glance at my casted foot, and puff a cheek. "The good part about it is I have an excuse not to play." Now I lean closer to her face and whisper in her ears. "And I get to go on a date with the hot blonde."
Kate’s eyes widened. She glanced at the side then back at and squealed, tugging at my bed. "Okay, I do not know what is going on, but you have to fill in." She whispers back, giving Kaiden short glances. "Isn’t he the one that took you to the dics the other day? Is he the mystery sex guy? And what is his na?" She gasp.
I grin at her reaction. This is the kind of positive energy I need around . Not so gloomy, moody adult who’s conflicted about what he wants. He obviously wants Kate but is an asshole. "Yes, he is. And no, I’ve never even locked lips with this guy. His na is Kaiden! Hot right?!" I squeal back.
"That’s a hot na." Kate glances at Kaiden again. "Damn! He’s fine! Where do I register?" She teases.
I clear my throat. "Need I remind you that you’re off the market?"
Kate raises the end of her lips up a little in dissatisfaction. "Oh yeah, that." She says unexcitedly. "Anyway-" She brushed the thought off.
I laugh. "You’re so not serious."
I glance at Kaiden. He’s just standing at the side of the room. I wonder how weird it is for him to see two girls gossip in front of him. I hope he cannot hear us.
"Can I talk to him?" Kate whispers at .
"Yeah, sure, just don’t say anything embarrassing about . Behave."
"I love that you trust enough to behave, bestie." Kate laughs at while giving this maniac stare. Scratch that, I don’t want her to say a word to him.
"I’ll head out and grab a snack. I’ll leave you two ladies to it." Kaiden says calmly with a smile. "Miss." He’s referring to Kate, greeting her goodbye. "Hazel." Kaiden winks at before taking his leave.
Kate and I just stayed silent, watching him leave. The mont it was just the two of us in the room, Kate scread.
"OH MY GOD, OH MY GOD, OH MY GOD! IF THAT ISN’T A GENTLEMAN! TELL EVERYTHING. E-VER-Y-THING! FROM SCRATCH!" Kate buzzed, shaking my shoulder.
"I don’t think this is how you treat a sick patient."
She raised a brow. "Girl, you broke your ankle, not your head. Now speak."
This made laugh. "To be honest, we haven’t actually been acquainted for a while."
"Pfft! You don’t need acquaintance to fuck one."
Hey! I hit her shoulder. "I’m just kidding. But really, we don’t." Kate admits.
I shrug. Fair enough.
"I t him in the n’s locker room." I started and gazed at her, she flashed an amused stare. I can already tell this discussion will be filled with interruptions over the dumbest things. But it’s sothing I enjoy while talking to her.
